my 920 overclock

I got new memory for my rig and lately i have been redoing my overclocking, and figuring out again how to overclock with a x58. its been a while, i was running stock for almost half a year. With this new memory I've had to reconsider VTT voltage and all that since it seems my 920 has a weak IMC, and so this ram is puttin a bit more stress on it. But here was what i got. Let me know if you guys think its solid. It passed all 50 of the IBT Maximum stress test.

Looks pretty good. What are you running your ram at?

1600 7-8-7-24

I am going to try and drop the timings to 6-8-6-20 at some point

May I suggest lowering QPI to the lowest needed setting: IE 3200Mhz-ish.

Or have you tried that? Is there a specific reason why QPI is at 3600? I would use that qpi for a 1800MHz RAM OC.

Other than that your OC settings look fine for a 920. 200Mhz base is good and allows for great RAM OC'ing. What's your QPI voltage at, and your DRAM voltage?

The qpi is set to auto i didn't choose it. My DRAM voltage is set to 1.61v and i dont mess with the PLL voltages like the QPI voltage or it wont post. I learned to to just leave them at auto over at evga.com

Ah - not familiar with how EVGA boards work anymore. I like to work my QPI voltage as low as possible, because it does make a temp difference on these x58 boards.

yeah, i want 4.2GHZ, and maybe 4.4 but that might get a bit interesting on air cooling lol

1.1v on the QPI voltage? That seems insanely low for a 200MHz base clock. Especially with RAM running at 1600Mhz. Very interesting...

Ahh the good old days of 1366 and fsb overclocking. I look back at it and now at how easy SB overclocking is and i think WTF Intel. Why couldn't you have made it easy for this cheap years ago?

"overclocking"

I dont consider sandy bridge overclocking as true overclock. your just increasing multi and voltage. Its way more fun with changing the BCLK/FSB etc

Fixed for you. How isn't it the same exact thing? It's the same exact result just achieved different ways.

that X makes a big difference(in price).

Personally, I don't see the need for a QX over a Q9650. I can get 4.5 ghz out of my q9650, which is probably about average for a Q9650/EP45 UD3P combo.

How's it perform at that speed? I had an E8500 at 4.8Ghz back in the 775 years and it was awesome.

I'm running it at 4ghz right now, and it's good enough that I can't justify a SB upgrade yet.
