ASROCK A770DE+ Failed

About 30 mins ago I got my ASRock A770DE+ I put all my stuff in, video card, ram, processor ect. And I plugged everything in, then I press on and it doesn't boot, all the fans and stuff turn on then I smell something burning and I quickly pull everything out. I can't seem to find the problem.. any suggestions?

Look on the motherboard and tell us what BIOS version it is, Its on a small white sticker next to your ram and IDE header.

May I ask how old the Thermaltake 480W PSU is and what exact model is it? The ones I know only has 18 amperes MAX (not continuous!) on the 12V rail which is not quite enough for your setup (Phenom II X4 925 + HD4650?). The burning smell is perhaps your PSU? Lets hope only the PSU is burned and not the other things like motherboard, cpu, harddrives, ram and so on.

best to start minim style just psu mobo cpu and heatsink, it wont boot but may show which ones burning, also did you put fresh/any thermal paste on the cpu

I already sent it back to RMA, and yeah this PSU is a bit old, I got a new one a few days ago. It's still in the mail.

Take the motherboard out and put it on a table or box then test. thats your best option

Board maybe gone as well. RMA again it looks like.

This time when you get a new one, test in on the box first before installing in the case. If it works on the box then there is something touching it inside of the case.

If you smelled something burning then the motherboard probably died.

If not, I had a similar issue trying to set up crossfire PC and plugged in P5K-Deluxe with HX650, no boot. Think it finally booted after I took out the CMOS battery for 20 minutes and resetted BIOS. Wouldn't hurt trying to reset CMOS, all you have to do is set it back again after it boots.

Do you guys think it could've fried my CPU? The video card and ram work, I know that for sure. I have no other am3 CPUs in my house though.

usually processor is die hard but it may if your psu fail and let high voltage into it
for burned, there must be a burned smell trace on it.
so from that you could make sure whats get burned
so you have several suspects: the psu burned, your mb is shortcircuit (maybe touch something or bad board), or both of them

I THINK I SOLVED IT! Would a messed up spacer do this? One of them has some of the groves outside of it, it's messed. Hard to explain but would this do it?

Okay, I got my new one today. It worked fine on my bench, but when I put it in my HAF 912 it doesn't work. I guess there is something shorting it out. Even though I ran it fine for about 10mins. Anyway to keep it static free?

Check all of the spacers and the area behind the mobo.

OK i have a perfect solution for you. take you bare motherboard and set in on a regular piece of card board and take a ink pen then draw the outline of the board and put marks in the mounting holes. once you are done take the motherboard off and then take a pair of succors and punch holes in the card board were the holes were and also cut out your outline you made. Once this is done, take all of the standoffs out of your case. stick the cardboard in there and find out what standoffs you need to put in.
