Laptop Black Screening!

Hey guys, i kept getting this problem where my laptop would just suddenly black screen, the laptop will still be on but it won't let me do anything so i have to forcefully turn it off. It started doing it often (every few hours) so i reformatted my laptop and it seemed to solve it for a few days, but then it happened again today...

I was thinking it may be overheating, but it's defintley not. It happened while watching a youtube video once, the rest of the time was while playing Heroes of Newerth (which is not a demanding game, does not make my laptop hot) it's getting really frustrating and i was wondering if you guys could help me out with this.

My laptop is a MSI GT660

Thanks

Have you tried checking your Event Viewer if you can?
Do you still have a cursor when the screen goes black?

Event Viewer? Do you mean Task Manager? If so nope it won't let me do anything at all, everything cuts off but there is still power to the machine. There's no cursor, before it black screens it usually just like freezes, and then the cursor will like, really really lag and warp across the screen (cause im moving it) and then it will black screen and i have to turn off the laptop.

Edit: Nevermind, i found the Event Viewer, it shows a critical error occured but thats just where it had to forcefully restart, it doesn't really say what happened unless im looking in the wrong place ;S

no, event viewer is a system log. if you check it and look for the time you screen last blacked out, you can see what was happening on the that time.

just google event viewer + your windows version and it'll say how to find it.

Hi guys, i've now found out what the error is. It's my nvidia display driver crashing/not responding, that's whats causes my laptop to black screen and not respond. Now i have no idea why it's doing this, is it cause of a faulty graphics card in my laptop? Can anyone help?

Thanks

Hes already did that.

he 're-formatted' and re-installed windows.

Try another set of newer/older drivers and see if the problem persists. If it does then it could be the card itself thats borked and you need to RMA the laptop

I tried the newer Beta drivers, and so far so good. Few days without any black screens yet

Try the simplest thing first, check if the screen is plugged in. usually you just need to get off the keyboard to see the plug. You can prob find how to do it on youtube
