Waited SOOOOOOOOO many yrs and then they do this shit?

This could be a deal breaker for me, unless i get pressured into getting it from friends.

Last time I checked, requiring a constant internet connection in order to play the game didn't constitute to it having DRM on it.

The auction house thing is odd I agree. But the way I look at it is that they are putting these valuable items that can possibly found and sold....to and by everyone. Remember those botters in D2 who just kept botting all day/night and made money selling digital items via d2 mule accounts? Yea, well they just gave more power to the people and not just the select few who were ballsy enough to risk losing a D2 account by botting.
Also, this sounds a little like what they did to Team Fortress 2. I just started playing this game again after being on hiatus for over a year and I come back to it being updated with all these new weapons and having rpg-like elements to it which it had before. You can actually buy items and weapons for this game, but it's sold directly from Valve I think.

And who knows how fun this game is going to be, I welcome these new innovations that they've implemented into the game. No stat points? No skill points? Weird, but I'd like to see how it all plays out. When Blizzard makes a game, they make it right. So I will reserve my judgement until the game is out and I am playing it.

what have they done?

no skill trees? no attribute points? auto pick up?

This is not diablo III.

the limited spell slots has me Ehhhhhh as well, but at least they said you can mod how the spells work via items. beam attack into shield was the example they gave.

i just dont like this, because customising my character was the big thing for me. not just items, but spells, and WHAT spells.

I didnt play diablo as a pre set character, i played it as MY character (who was a kickass high speed lightning/frost sorceress) and i played it my way - with lots of high speed teleportation combined with slow, powerful frost attacks. slow enemies, teleport away, hit with big spells.

This pisses me off with D3, because i cant customise it to play my way - they've already chosen your level up path. having a GOAL (just three more points!) was the entire goddamn motivation to level up in D2!

My friend and I have been butting heads at work about this for the past few nights. For me it's all about the ability to customize the character, and the fact that it adds replay value. In D2, I have friends that had played through the entire game with each character type dozens of times just trying new builds and goofy stuff to see how it worked. They are basically making it a dungeon-crawler hack and slash with no RPG elements. How can you remove the entirety of the game and call it a sequel? Are they taking notes from BioWare\Dragon Age???

So like every Sorc anyone ever made who went Frost?

D1 didn't have talent trees, fancy smancy teleporting, and shooting furbies out of your hands the colors of the rainbow, and I think it was a better game because of it. I really won't pass judgement till I get some seat time, but the story line is following D1, no skill trees like D1, I just love how that sounds.

You don't need skill trees to make an Role Playing Game. D1 had very little Quests, no Skill Trees, no Abilities (if you were a Warrior or a Rogue). And I was just enveloped in that storyline, I played through that game with my Warrior (years ago) like I think 8 times.

No, but you at least need to be able to play your character how you want to. You need to be able to make choices that may have consequences. If they game removes all those for the sake of making the game "more accesible" it always has a negative effect. T

he perfect example would be comparing Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2. DA:O was a great RPG, that reminded me a lot of a more High Fantasy version of Diablo. DA2, was a piece of shit hack and slash with minimal customization. BioWare claims all changes were made to make the game more exciting, but all it did was strip all the unique aspects of the game away and turn it into a generic Action "RPG" that was just a giant hack-and-slash with a mediocre storyline.

People want a newer fancier version of Diablo 2, they don't want a completely different game. They also want to be able to play their Single Player games, whenever, wherever. Not allowing people to play the game at all when they aren't connected to Battle.net is absurd. It's easily remedied by not allowing characters to be ported from SP to MP. Problem. Fucking. Solved. Store all MP characters on Battle.net servers, and then people are forced to use legit non-hacked characters unlike in Diablo 2.

When you need to come out and say that people should play other games instead of yours in certain situations, there is a problem with your sales strategy...

Yeah I been nervous as well since Craptivision merged with Blizzard. Pretty sure Koticks going to run Blizzard down the shitter as well.

It all depends on the story and the setting. Choices are great, but I still feel D1 is better than almost any RPG out there, and there are very little choices, or consequences. But the setting, the music, the characters (Faran the drunk). I mean they got people who are there just to envelope you more into the story. I remember my first time meeting The Butcher to this day, or even Leoric, or Arch Bishop Lazaurus. These are some of the greatest memories I have of gaming. Even the mini-bosses we so epic, like Sledge (he was random, so you had to live in fear, and hope he wasn't going to be spawned this time through), he was a big orge type guy that traveled with about 5 or 6 others, and unlike every other one that you run into that looks like him, him and his band stealth. The onlytime you would know you found him is, you would be walking then all of a sudden you couldn't move, they would unstealth and have you surrounded, and when you get hit you can't swing and you can't block people behind you, he was tough as hell.

DA1 on PC wasn't anything like Diablo, it's like an RPG/RTS. DA2 is just like DA1 was on consoles. I don't see what was stripped away, Bioware has been doing that RPG/RTS crap since Baldurs Gate in the 90's. I personally liked both games, but here you are citing gameplay as making it a crap game, not storyline or customization, so it seems to be completely off topic and more a rant towards Bioware.

I sure as hell don't want a fancier D2. D2 never had me crapping my pants over bosses like I did in D1. D1's music never pulled me in, neither did it's storyline or NPC's for quests. Nor did it's locations, you want fear, you need a bit more enclosure, and less colorful/bright areas and less bright spell effects. I want to be crapping my pants, staring at a door and seeing blood and people on spikes on the other side and thinking, "maybe I should just ignore this door and mosey on killing skeletons", D2 never gave me those moments. As far as being online, thats a bit of a pain, but it's not for SP/MP characters, it's for hacking, and it's going to fail, but meh.

Theres a lot of Problems since the Activision Blizzard merger, and there will be more down the line, and it makes me sad. I don't know if this game will be good, I hope it is, if it isn't I will continue playing D1. But the lack of skill trees I see people complaining about doesn't bother me one bit, not if they do the game right. Remember you get to fill so many slots with so many abilities, picture those are "skills" you want Whirlwind, toss it in a slot, you want Frenzy, toss it in a slot. Those slots are going to act much like Skill Trees, so I don't see the huge issue. And I also comment because I'm sick of hearing about comparisons to colorful D2 crap, seems people are too young (and I'm only 25 lol) to remember how amazing D1 was (and still is), just to give you an idea, Diablo 1 is tied for 3rd on Metacritic with a rating of 94(and it came out 16 years ago!), and Diablo 2 is tied for 9th with a rating of 88.

I'm going to go out on a limb here but I think this game looks nothing like Diablo. It looks like some game for iPad. I've never though I'd say this but I'd rather be playing Hellfire or Lord Of Destruction. They have more classic atmosphere /rant

I'm leaning more and more towards Torchlight 2 than getting this. Looks pretty good but a constant internet connection for sp? really?! if they got rid of the stats just get rid of the classes and have male/female and then you choose skills as you lvl up. armour slows you down, affects stamina, inreases spell time.. etc. that would have way more customisation..
anyway if there is a demo i will give it a try see if the story draws me in.. after all the only thing that ever gets me into/through a blizzard game is story.

I'm intrested in why you say this. The older Diablo games were a lot darker, yes, but that was to sidestep limited hardware at the time. The severe amount of darkness in the games was so they didn't have to waste resources on lighting effects (which were poorly optimized at the time). With Diablo 3, hardware has come so far that they can now provide actual detailed environments instead of curiously dark and deserted catacombs and caves. I for one welcome the new look, it looks fantastic

I don't have problems with its look. It's all shiny and flashy with destructible environment nice physics and all but somehow it doesn't have guts in it. Sure I haven't played Diablo 3 yet but this first impression I got doesn't leave me excited. It doesn't look innovative or original. I don't know maybe Diablo 3 will be ground breaking who knows but this video reminds of diablo-like games Sacred or something else. It's just all those gazillion effects, explosions, laser-like thingies and all ...

As for old Diablo games ... well if they'd got new look and got their bugs polished they still wouldn't lose their charm and atmosphere
