Sometimes Google Chrome makes my PC sluggish and I don't know why!

I have currently Chrome 15 (I tried several versions included stable ones) and this issue happens from time to time when browsing not matter how many tabs are opened.

The problem consist on the ENTIRE Windows environment going suddenly sluggish and Chrome stops rendering web pages but it doesn't hang, the Windows interface is rendered EXTREMELY slow as if running on a 386 and sometimes even incorrectly rendered like missing buttons, text or any GUI element from any program or Windows desktop.

This problem solves immediately after closing Chrome.

In Task manager I don't see the CPU or memory going very high while this is happening and the GPU usage in GPUZ is 0%, so I don't see how Chrome makes the computer slow and the GUI even bad rendered while the hardware resources usage are normal.

Does anyone who use Chrome experience the same issue?

How is the memory doing? Make sure to enable the column Peak memory as well.

According to Task manager total memory usage was 1.0 GB when happened, though I had several programs running in background, I will enable that column and report when this happens again

I can't remember , but chrome memory usage (workspace) for each process was the usual one (I think) lol

Oh I forgotten to say, the hard disk light was off so it wasn't paging :confused:

UPDATE: Happened again. Like previous instances, the memory and CPU were OK, but I previously read about the GDI objects stuff and then enabled the column. One of the Chrome process was taking 10.000 GDI objects. Killed that process, the problem went away while Chrome started rendering the pages. Is this a Chrome bug or something???

well. i have used fire fox and chrome both.

firefox = too slow and i dont like the interface.

google chrome too many bugs and used to crash all the time.

opera is fast, crash free and the interface is the best of the three. atleast i get what i want.
opera has never let me down.

I really use Opera though I am testing v. 12, I have used it since ver 7.11 and I like it, the only problem it has, is some pages don't work (well I know that in many cases is webmasters don't following the standards and so on) then I use Chrome as an alternate one though in some cases I use it for all

Firefox... well I dumped it because of slowness and it eats so memory that the poor hard disk has to paginate a lot :mad:

Well IMHO it is very innovative, and it has many features built-in and since it has added extensions is much powerful

In my experience it loads pages very fast and so on though the only problem so far is some pages like Google docs and so, don't work properly

In my case Chrome crashed occasionally though I think it's the buggy Flash player because happened while loading some flash stuff.
Now to investigate why it has a GDI object leaks

Here it crashed, but I think it's because of flash player or GPU acceleration stuff

it did for me though. and its interface is like a poor copy of opera anyways. im just a consumer so i go with what works best for me. Opera works well and so i use opera.

Your specs say you have 2Gigs of ram. That means you are running low on memory if you are using 1gig+ of it with Chrome and other apps running in the back ground. I believe the sluggishness comes into play when your OS has to rely on pagefile heavily.

OK I will try to browse without any program opened (except the audio player) and I will report if/when the slugginess begin

you said it was using upto 1GB of ram for itself... on a 2GB system, that explains it then and there. you ran out of ram.

i'm using 3.5GB just sitting at my desktop with all my browsers/tabs open. you really should spend the very little money it costs these days, to upgrade to 4GB.

The move from 2GB to 4GB is pretty darn nice. It makes everything soo much more fluid.

1GB was system total not only Chrome

I've opened ~38 tabs with a heavy page the TOTAL memory usage 1.79 GB

though the CPU and RAM were kicking 100% when loading them. I couldn't know total chrome memory usage because there were 30+ chrome processes and I couldn't sum all each memory consumption. Anyway there weren't any slugginess at all.

Anyway I have plans to upgrade ram but DDR2 prices are increasing badly.

what do you open? is that has many pictures?
i dunno ive run several version of chrome, if you open many tabs and have lot pictures there it would be hella slow for a moments.

Yeah it has lots of images, scripts, text, flash.... yeah when it is loading it would slow as hell then it recovers and get normal

Now I am trying firefox 9 nightly builds, tweaked a bit and it's fast as light. I think faster than Chrome, in part due to the better GPU acceleration, 0 sec delay when loading pages(after about:config tweaks), 64 bit support and HTTP pipelining and going back and forth is instant while in Chrome takes time to reload pages,

and still didn't crashed once despite being pre-alpha LOL
