Hey all,

I have an EVGA GTX 470 SC card. Does anyone know how I can unlock the BIOS to allow fan control changes. When I use GPU-Z to backup the bios and open it up using nibitor, the fan controls are all greyed out. Is it possible to edit the BIOS using a Hex editor or something to allow for this? or can someone point me in right direction. I've tried to find an unlocked BIOS through google but all the ones I've found are locked under nibitor too. :banghead: I'm trying to change my fan speeds to improve cooling as I don't mind the noise and since I also use my PC to run OS X, I can't use afterburner to change speeds, hence the BIOS edit.

Thanks in advance.

Upload your bios here in zip format. I will take a look at it.

Hey Jr,

thanks for helping me out :toast:, I've attached a zip of the bios backup from GPU Z.

First, you are welcome. Second, thank you for posting the zip. Third, Welcome to TPU. Finally, it may be a couple days before I can take a look.

4th...the EVGA GTX470 should have native fan control via something like Afterburner:confused:

Have you went into the settings and turned on the fan control?

+1.
My 465 didn't require any BIOS editing. A 470 is a 465 with extra mem/cores so it should be the same. have you tried using MSI's afterburner to change fan speed ?

Yes I use afterburner when I'm running windows, but I need to change the fan controls under OS X, which doesn't have any fan related apps for Nvidia cards, I mentioned this in my first post :)

I read right past the OSX bit in the OP. Shame really.

The way to go about this correctly is to pay for the latest release of nibitor so that it will recognize the card w/o the issues you have in the free version.

Jr. has a thread here somewhere with a step by step of how to circumvent the free version to do exactly what you want.

Looking through the bios real quick only gives me minimum and maximum fan speed. I am having difficulty locating the temperature range. Most I could do is make it spin faster at minimum. If that's what you would like just reply saying so. I could even edit your idle/2d clocks if you want so you can keep it cool when not gaming/3d.

Thanks Jr! any ideas as to why EVGA hid all those settings? also if its not too much to ask please edit the 2d/idle clocks for me.
Also sneekypeet mentioned something about a paid version of nibitor, do you think that would allow for editing temp/fan settings?

Thanks again for your help.

I can hex edit these bioses so that's not a worry. As far as 2d clocks are concerned I am going to be rather busy today just post up with what you feel you are comfortable with. Should I just half them & lower voltages so it isn't as hot at idle?

Oh and you are welcome!

If and when you do have some free time, maybe you could see if finding the temperature ranges is possible, I don't mind waiting seeing as I've given up trying to do it myself! But for now, sounds good half the clocks/voltages, maybe the min fan speed set to 45%. :toast:

Thanks Jr!
