November 15 Launch Date for Sandy Bridge-E

Even as AMD struggles to get its FX series processors out, and into to the market, Intel seems to be doing the opposite: trying to get Sandy Bridge-E (enthusiast) out as quickly as possible. The new high-end desktop/workstation platform was slated for December, and then there was news that chipset delays could push it into 2012. Fresh news pin-points the launch date to Week 46 of 2011, more specifically, November 15. On that day, Intel will have processors as well as compatible Desktop Board products (Intel-branded motherboards) out in the markets, ready for purchase. Ideally, motherboard vendors should have their socket LGA2011 products stocked up by then, too.

Intel will begin the Sandy Bridge-E platform with Core i7-3960X Extreme Edition 6-core Unlocked processor, Core i7-3930K 6-core Unlocked processor, and Core i7-3820 4-core processor. Intel X79 Express is the De facto desktop chipset. The first compatible Intel Desktop Board products include DX79SI, and DX79TO.

Great news, i can't wait to find out the cost and performance.

Although i assume the i7-3960X will be out of my price range so it's the i7-3930K that has my interest but is there any official details on the differences?

Honestly i don't expect bulldozer and sandy bridge-E to be in the same performance or price range so i would assume it should not have too big of an effect.

Why is this bit even in a news post?

AMD didn't even release an actual date right so who's to say their struggling, we all get told to stop speculating and yet the speculation is in the very news posts we read .

Good news about sandy-e though.

Will be an interesting Christmas!

AMD's clock speeds

Did you guys see the clock settings on the new AMD FX series. 8 core cpu at 3.6 ghz with boos to 4.2 and 4 core cpu at 4.2 ghz. I am very curious to see how hot they run. Intel seems much more conservative.

Because Bulldozer was slated for 2007, then "next year" till 2011, and then "next month" till today.

And mind you, at no point were those timelines media speculation. They were given out by AMD (official), to the press from time to time. It's AMD that has been giving us timelines, and jumping them each time.

It is possible that the clock speed does not have to be as high while still performing better, if it's higher performance clock for clock also considering dual threads so 12 threads vs bulldozers 8 so i would hope/assume heat is not the reason for the clock speed but i agree, i'm very curious about the heat as it's not going to be a small chip.

Not the same thing man, BD is actually all taped out now.

Back then it was due to be taped out but they never done it.

Regardless of that it still shouldn't be in a news story.

The news is that there will be new Sandy-e processors not about how AMD is handling it's self.

What's with all the Intel vs AMD crap?

Anyway, anyone remember this? http://www.techpowerup.com/148282/Sa...2-Sources.html

That's why you wait for official launch date.

No, AMD had been claiming market releases all that time. It's they who have been giving us dates for market release (when you can walk into a store and pick up a Bulldozer chip), and jumping them each time.

In many occassions, AMD made those dates public, too. For example, in the recent Bulldozer/Bobcat presentation given out in late 2010, they made 1H 2011 market launch public.

Because someone took issue with an inconvenient truth that is perfectly relevant to the news.

(see what I done, made a comment I didn't need too before making my main point )
Anyway BTA I won't argue here, I've made a complaint so I'll leave it at that.

If AMD did things right and releaset this Bulldozer in may and it would be good chip, then right now we would be talking about Ivy Bridge and Sandy bridge price drops and even Sandy-E price drops (if Bulldozer would be great) but it is not and now no one can predict when and in what condition it will apear, so we can forget about any Intel price drops and we can expect Ivy Bride delay and overpriced Sandy-E

Let me break it to you: no action will be taken. Why? Because unlike me you have limited understanding of what constitutes to fud, have no background information, don't keep in touch with AMD, haven't been following the mirage that Bulldozer market-launch has been for the past 4 years until now, and hence don't see how mentioning AMD fits perfectly into the context of the news post.

I believe Core i7-3820 will be faster than FX-8150 and their price will be almost the same, AMD loosing another battle.

Platform costs for the i7-3820 will be higher. AM3+ motherboards can be had for under $130. LGA2011 boards will start at $189. And then you'll need 4 memory sticks on X79 motherboards for the i7-3820 to perform optimally (quad-channel).

So you'll be spending anywhere between $50~$150 more on the i7-3820 platform compared to FX-8150.

I agree, but there will be some extra features for that price including more SATA ports and faster memory. A real benefit for enthusiast segment.

That's true, but then you're not getting more SATA ports and faster memory for the same price as FX/AM3+ platform. There is a premium. You'll pay $60 more for those extra SATA ports (if you decide to run your SnB-E system on dual-channel), because LGA2011 boards start at $189. You'll pay $150 more if you also want faster memory (the $60 costlier motherboard, and two additional 4 GB memory modules).
