Advice on first time SSD...

I came down with two choices for SSD 60-64GB for under $100

1- OCZ 60GB Vertex Plus # oczssd2-1vtxpl60g for $95

2- Patriot 64GB PS-100 # ps64gs25ssdr for $99

I would go for #2 as it is faster & have 4GB more but i am not to sure on the quality & reliability of Patriot drives?

A third choice would be OCZ Vertex 2E Series # oczssd2-2vtxe60g for $119

I'd rather not go over $100 (tight budget) unless it would be really , really worth the extras money (speed & reliability)?

Patriot has a much better rep with SSDs than OCZ.

What is it for? Desktop or laptop.

If desktop, get the fastest 64GB you can for your money, and pair it with a HDD.

If laptop, get the LARGEST SSD you can for your money, never mind about 5-10% speeds here and there... 64GB on a laptop is too small if you are running a mailbox on there and a suit of applications. I am in the process of upgrading my laptop from 64GB SSD because of this exact problem.

Also, 60 or 64GB difference isnt worth talking about. They are both probably the same underlying capacity. One just has more space allocated to redundancy and also for maintaining write speeds. If you are on a limited budget, try to get to 80GB or higher. You will thank yourself in the long run.

But i decided to wait for SDD price to go down even more , next spring should be good & probably get an 90-120GB for the price as a 64GB today as SDD prices are getting lower by the month almost...

Anyhow for now i am buying some nice 8GB kit DDR3 Corsair 1866 & later on an AM3+ Mobo if Bulldozer comes out to have good performances at a good price point?

BTW: No laptop no interest in to having one period...

It's still cheaper than being a car guy.
