5770 idle too high?
I found some people who's 5770 idles at 35C with the stock cooler, mine idles at 50C and full loads at about 70C. I have seen more people who's card runs at 50C could it just be the bad cooler and those few people were just lucky?

That is normal for the XFX version. XFX makes their 5770's look like reference coolers, unfortunately they are cheaper.

So basically a slap of copper taped to the gpu would be better than this...

I think that case air flow also matters. If your case has poor airflow, temps would be higher than a guy with a HAF, FT02 or something else.
My 6770 Vapor-x idles at 40C, FYI. EDIT: Noticed that you have a HAF so yeah, those temps are somewhat high.

OP they may not be what you want them to be but as mentioned there is nothing to worry about, if it bugs you then you could bring the temps down a few degrees by adding some arctic silver and creating a custom fan profile.

Anyway, those temperatures are within the operational range of the GPU, as you said, so it doesn't mean that it will melt or something.

95'c is when you should start thinking about it
but no harm will be done to most graphics cards below 105'c
