The drivers will install and nothing magical happens after. You have to install something like the Toshiba Bluetooth software to really do much (create connections, or stream music, or transfer files) Windows has a hands off approach to bluetooth.

really, has windows 7 gone backwards?, with my bluetooth adapter (4-5 years old now), windows vista will automatically allow me to find devices, stream music to headsets and the like, and transfer files

Same with mine, except XP/7
@cookiemonster; Have you checked Device Manager to see if there is a Bluetooth icon present?
Also, what device are you trying to connect to your laptop via bluetooth?

Hi thanks for all the replies, the funny thing the last one i had before installed the drivers and the software but the software stopped working about 3 weeks ago and it wouldn't install the sofware after that so I though it was broken hence getting the new ones which are the same as i had before. yes the bluetooth icon is in the Device Manager all it says is
Bluetooth Radios
Generic Bluetooth
Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator
and it is my new phone i want to conect to the Desktop PC.

If the drivers are there then i just need the software, any ideas of a good free one or a good one.

You don't need software. Your phone should have an option to be discovered and so should your laptop. If you do a search via Bluetooth, you should be able to discover one of the devices.
