Battery issue with my netbook.
My netbook is a Samsung n145 and has 8 months
The problem is that in some cases, the battery percentage drops suddenly from 25% to 5% approx. (the values can change) and the netbook shuts down. The battery in some cases is totally fine and lasts 6 hours or more. I saw that the wear level was at 10% but yesterday, after a charge, increased to 19%. I've read that those symptoms are because of uncalibrated control system of the battery, I've never calibrated the battery, I have understand that you have to fully drain it, then fully charge it to get the control system proper reading, right? Any advice would be appreciated, many thanks

since youve only had it 8 months. you can rma the battery for another one.
I think its something to do with the sensor in the battery that has gone bad. If you dont want to do that then, look for a cheap replacement battery on ebay

calibration is to detect the real capacity of your battery so it can read right

when I charge it always indicates 100% (unless I enable battery life extender, which then it reaches 80% and stops). I will do what that manual indicates then I will comment the results ![]() Many thanks ![]() EDIT: Asrock what does mean "Maybe check if Sol Computer's will buy it of you J/K". ![]() Are you referring to this company (http://www.solcomputers.co.uk/ ) ? Thanks

Fully draining is GOOD for the battery, it makes the cells last longer. charging constantly when the battery is full or near full just wears the battery out quicker. as it f**ks up the cells.
if the battery has been working fine until now. Id just put it down to the battery being bad and RMA'ing it. its not a case of how long the battery lasts but what the battery is reporting when its plugged in. Unless youve really abused that battery

When you drain the battery you will lose a few % of the total battery although it should correct it with the right value's. Bad joke i guess from some thing that Qubit posted ( as in maybe they would buy it as seen they sell shit for more than there worth ) http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=152321 |

Done. I used it all day at high performance and the battery % lowered smoothly without that gap. The battery is fine. It simply was uncalibrated. But the wear level remains though the battery lasts very long. I saw many people having similar level with 6 cell battery after 6 months (even worse)
Thanks to all

well its good to hear that the calibration fixed the problem. Ive heard of battery calibration with a few smart phones, but I didnt think netbooks or laptops had something like that

I used to think this, but what you said is only true with older batteries. Fully draining a battery is bad and short charges are best for you battery. When you run a laptop on less than 20% battery it adds a lot of extra wear. Also keeping the laptop plugged in to the mains when the battery is at 100% is not bad for your laptop unless your laptop gets overly hot. Edit with a souirce - the first google hit for laptop battery care
