what cooler for i7 920?
i am getting a icore 7 920 on friday.
to start i will have a stock cooler and a thermaltake spinq <-- not sure if it will do what i need with this motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/... for case i have both a antec 900 and a BitFenix Colossus Case. im leaning towards the antec as the fans are much quieter, and im not sure if i can fit my Scythe "KAZE MASTER" Fan Controller behind the door. I am trying to get the rest of the peices i need. I am down to cooling. I am planning on overclocking on air or a closed watercooled system like h50/h70 I am not planning on doing any voltmods, so i am expecting to get 3.6 to 3.8ghz overclock. What i need is help choosing a cooler. I want to spend $50. Looking at the for sale threads here what i have as choices. 1. corsair h50 or h70 with better fans. 2. Zalman CNPS11X 3. corsair a70 4. coolermaster v8 5. Xigma Tek dark knight CPU i am looking for best temps with out sounding like a vacuum cleaner. |

Definitely either the H70 or the Zalman. I have the H70 and it does its job perfectly.
Keeps my cpu idle about 24'C and full load about 45'C But if you do go with the H70, my personal opinion is you should remove the pre-applied thermal paste and apply your own. I got better performance, but that's just me. Hope this helps, good luck mate. |

Take the H70, use the stock fans. Use the resistor cables and slow them down though as they are a bit whiney if I do recall. The stock fans are high performance though. They will beat most aftermarket fans. I know from testing many different fans on my old h70.

The corsair sealed water loops will get you to the lowest temps with the least noise, but they are not the most price efficient if you are not planning to overvolt. Are the Noctua stuff under consideration? The D14 is a really quiet kit with ULNA, but at that price the H50/H70 might be cheaper. Frio is good compromise, CNPS10X variants are good too.
I would recommend 212+, but you need jet engines to provide ample airflow so its automatically out. |

I use a Corsair A70 and im very impressed with it. 4Ghz 1.275V keeps it cool at 75c deg full load
