ASUS Bundles Battlefield 3 with Graphics Cards and Sound Cards

ASUS began bundling copies of Battlefield 3 (not Limited Edition) and an ASUS-Battlefield 3 themed Lanyard with GeForce GTX 560 Ti DirectCU II TOP graphics card and Xonar D2X PCI-Express 7.1 channel sound card. You can buy either of those and get a Battlefield 3 coupon that can be redeemed on Origin.

The GeForce GTX 560 Ti TOP will allow you to play Battlefield 3 at 1080p resolution with quite some eye-candy turned on. Its core is overclocked to 900 MHz (from NVIDIA reference speed of 820 MHz), and memory at 1050 MHz (4200 MHz GDDR5 effective). The DirectCU II cooler, ASUS claims, keeps the card 20% cooler than the reference heatsink. There is 1 GB of GDDR5 memory across a 256-bit wide memory interface. This GTX 560 Ti is based on the 40 nm GF114 silicon, packing 384 CUDA cores.

Next up is the Xonar D2X sound card, which is based on ASUS AV200 audio processor (C-Media CMI8788 OxygenHD derivative), with four TI Burr-Brown PCM1796 output DACs (total of 8 channels), and Cirrus-Logic CS5381 mic/line input ADC. The card can provide an output signal-noise ratio of 118 dBA. It supports all PCM output resolutions, including 24-bit 192 KHz. The card seats on any PCI-Express slot. This card, ASUS claims, will let you squeeze the most out of the already perfect Battlefield 3 sound design, helping you hear your enemies better.

Anything to boost sales I guess, a "free" game is always nice.

I own that sound card many years ago, pretty useless if you dont use the optical digital audio cable... So you must have of an amplifier with optical digital input.

I definitely have my eye on the GTX 560 Ti DirectCU II TOP , in the UK you can get it bundled with BF3 and the new Batman. Xmas could be fun

So soon Ebay will be exploding with BF3 codes sold by system builders, just like Deus Ex, Dirt 3 and Batman:Arkham City. A shame that BF3 isn't Steam-redeemable though.

I don't get the reason for sound cards outside of professional fields. Built in sound has been plenty on most motherboards. But yeah, years ago back when I had an old Socket A board...it so needed a sound card. Built in was just horrid. Didn't even work half the time.

Meh

I think people stopped buying their D2X's as their Cheaper DX was just fine for most people. I had a D2X, but i sold it.

Hell, they dont even slap a BF3 sticker on it to make it look the part or any different from a normal Xonar D2X is what i dont understand.

Whoop de doo a bundled game with a soundcard thats been the same for the last 5 years with no change what so ever. There is nothing enticing about this soundcard that would appeal to consumers more over the DX other then the fact that it sounds a little better and it comes with BF3. They arent even making an effort to try marketting this thing properly.

Sapphire BF3 edition - go figure.

Its like selling tickets to an opera show and when you get there, the singer turns out to be a 5year old squeamish kid whose too shit scared to sing let alone come out from back stage and greet the audience. I mean REALLY. REAALY ASUS???

herp de derp.

I am in need of better PC speakers and I am currently tracking the price of this, waiting for the price to drop a tad bit -

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CA-S...0414756&sr=8-1

Now, EVERYONE keeps telling me that I MUST have a dedicated sound card in order to really appreciate the quality of those PC speakers. I am planning to build a SB system this year and give my LGA 1366 system to my GF, and my mb most probably will be either P8Z68-V PRO or P8Z68-V Deluxe, unless the ROG one drops in price.

Are you sure I won't loose anything by plugging that set of speakers directly into one of those boards I mentioned, without any dedicated sound card? I never had a sound card before but then again, I never had really good speakers either spending all my money on graphics cards. But lately I started appreciating good sound, switched to lossless from MP3, ditched my all-in-one home cinema and got separates, and now I want to improve my PC sound quality as well.

a decent soundcard is always the way to go unless you plan to hook them up via optical. If you go by optical then you might as well stick to onboard as optical bypasses all the parts of the card that makes everything sound good and compresses the signal.

You dont need to spend a lot of money on a soundcard. a Xonar DX more then perfect for everything, it doesnt matter if its gaming, music or movies

That would be external DAC as optical is digital only and need to be converted to analog signal before you can hear anything.

I have a Xonar STX - your point is invalid.

Unless you have tested every card out on the market (& ive had quite a few) I wouldnt comment on which is the best.

'Sound' is a very personal thing. just because you like HT's doesnt mean everyone else does.

Especially when they are virtually non-existant in europe due to nobody stocking them

it's hilarious that they bundle bf3 with the top model cards...if they want to boost sales they should bundle the lower models(i.e. 150-$200 models) that normal most actually already own and can run in crossfire.

If someone can spurlge for a asus TOP GPU chances are they already owned bf3 for about a month.

FAIL

I don't see what would be the pointwith sub 200 cards ? Only reason I can think of is to piss people off with sub 20FPS gameplay.
