Well I mean, within week of Skyrim being releasing Nvidia released a big tweaking guide for INI tweaks and had all the shadow information and things like that in it. I didn't even have hte game yet and I almost read through it all in preperation.

I work 6-7 days a week, I didn't..lol

Here's my super high def version of that file, extreme gpu's only.. 6144 shadows, extreme view distance for trees and grass.
I use this one.

I know if I try 8k shadows res, even I hit the ground in some areas.

For anyone thinking 2 GBs is sufficient. This is after updating my mods and installing the official HD pack. Peak was 3028 MB

Games scale with the amount of ram your card has. I peak at 1250mb with my 470 and it has 1280mb and thats with multiple gigs of texture mods at 2k and 4k res.

It might still run but when you hit the vram limit performance drops sharply. In the spots where my 470 and 580 performed similarly vram usage was low, everywhere else my 580 3 gb had a massive performance boost. Adding these textures has dropped me 6 FPS when it hits up against that 3 GB limit, its the same as before when I'm in the 2.4-2.8 gb range.

yeah im getting 2 GTX670 Asus DirectCUII cards in a few weeks, should be a good boost in performance, granted ill only have 2GB but still better then the 1.280mb i have right now.

I think that's what was happening to my old card.

I tried the game on X8 in game AA and after a while the frames started to drop.
Soon after I would get a freeze or CTD without warning.

Drop it back to x4 in game AA and I have no problems.

When I would use ENB enhanced shaders mod I had to drop it even more but I could rack up the AF.

I thought my card would handle X8AA but maybe the other settings which I have increased are taking a toll when using X8AA.

Having serious bottlenecks with my 6990s on my resolutions, sometimes frames dip in the low 20s

No they don't. It's dependant on the game engine. Skyrim's engine does not do this.
