EUROCOM Announces Neptune Mobile Workstation: 3D for Professionals and Consumers

Eurocom Corporation (www.eurocom.com), a developer of long lifespan, fully upgradable Notebooks, high performance Mobile Workstations and Mobile Servers is now offering a Mobile Workstation capable of supporting NVIDIA 3D Vision with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580M and 560M GPUs.

Eurocom offers 3D Vision support on the Neptune Mobile Workstation through a built in-emitter, 3D active shutter technology, a 120Hz display and supported NVIDIA graphics cards. The EUROCOM Neptune comes complete with an NVIDIA 3D Vision Kit which consists of one pair of 3D Vision glasses and USB cables. Each lens of the glasses operates at 60Hz, and alternate to create a 120Hz 3-dimensional experience.

Not particularly fond of that cooling layout, seems like a single heatsink with 2 fans, I think a dedicated GPU heatsink with those kind of GPUs would provide better cooling. HOWEVER this machine is really pleasing to look at, doesn't seem bulky and is really light for it's power at 3KG.1s...I had to lug around 5.5KGs of a machine back in 2007 to have decent power, I'm impressed this weighs around the same as a high end 15" machine.

Doesn't mention anything about materials, but I'm assuming it's a lighter housing than your regular laptop.

If you look close you can see the screw on the corner of the CPU heatsink is directly over the thermal paste on the GPU heatsink so i'm pretty sure it is 2 separate heatsinks.

Thanks for that, now I see it. This classroom still has CRTs, and this one is blurry. So this could turn out to be one kick ass laptop...nice.

I thought it was one thing to start with as well and had to zoom in to be sure, it's not exactly the best angle to show them off.

I love the fact this is the only, or one of the few laptops which actually states it's MXM module type, although upgrading it is another thing...MXM chips are expensive, unless they plan on selling them themselves. Would be pretty cool actually.

IIRC you *can* get MXM based GPU's destined for Eurocom laptops, whether these are direct from Eurocom though I have no idea.

A few of the guys on NBR have upgraded their M17x R2's to the HD6970/HD6990 GPU's and have quoted getting Eurocom models.

You are right on the price though. A HD6990m is well over £300 or nearly triple what the equivilant Desktop GPU (HD6870 in this case) will cost you.
