TYAN Announces an Array of AMD Opteron 6200 and 4200 Series Processor Platforms

TYAN, an industry-leading server platform manufacturer and a subsidiary of MiTAC International Corp., will announce its latest platforms that fully support the latest 32nm AMD Opteron 6200 and 4200 Series processors (NYSE: AMD) at SC11. TYAN will be presenting a live demo of its GN70-B8236-IL, a powerful and cost-effective GPU/HPC 2U server solution installed with two AMD Opteron 6200 Series processors and two AMD FirePro V8800P Graphic Cards at TYAN booth #4202 during the show.

TYAN will be showcasing its broad portfolio featuring AMD Opteron 6200 and 4200 Series processors which ensure that customers experience power efficiency, performance, scalability and management flexibility via features such as AMD Turbo CORE technology and HyperTransport 3.0 Technology. TYAN offers a total of 13 AMD G34 solutions that support the 16-Core AMD Opteron 6200 Series processors which deliver advanced performance for complex workloads and offer flexible scalability for expanding HPC requirements. TYAN also offers six AMD C32 platforms which are compatible with AMD Opteron 4200 Series processors and target applications ranging from general purpose computing to highly-threaded mission-critical applications such as SMB cloud computing, web servers as well as VM applications and virtual machines.

an opteron will game just fine.
dont expect any oc options on a tyan board though.
i think moving enterprise class chips away from consumer sockets have ended the days of "enthusiasts" with opteron based systems.

I game on a opteron 6128 2ghz octo... on an asus KGPE-D16 board... 8gb of ram and a 6970...

handles bf3 just fine at high/max settings.... (2048x1152)
my cpu is actually bored while gaming... about 40% usage...and it uses all the cores...

These new chips being higher clocked might do better...

correct... overclock only available on supermicro boards... with custom hacked bios... (clockgen chip has been found)

but I would expect similar clock to clock ipc regressions between the 6100 and 6200 series chips...but with more cores and higher clocks... they will overcome it.

I mean ... AMD doesn't seem very proud of these chips... $686 for a 2.2ghz 16core?

Patrion could post some detailed info about the overclocking ? at least on what forum is that info ?

Do you also have the reboot issues some other folks have had, any idea if the new 62** would run on your Asus, or if Asus has something new lined up to replace your Asus G34.
Also suggestions of what would overclock better the 6262HE or what other 16 core in dual socket config.

Compared to Sandy-crapEe cpu's this is 62** is a bargain. Would love to see benchies vs Sandy-crapEe's for the same price point / bang for the buck point.

It is not the preferred gaming cpu... and yes I have the reboot issue ... but not as severe as others (randomly maybe once a week)... until I stick an IL dodeca in there... then it gets bad... within an hour or so... depending on load.
