Wi-Fi security do's and don'ts
I've found this article on Wi-Fi security, covered in 11 easy to read bullet points that I'd like to share. It's great for those of us that are not experts in wireless networking.
I'll just add a 12th bullet point: If you can avoid having wireless switched on at all, then this is the best wireless protection of all. If your particular situation allows you to run Ethernet cables instead, then do so, at every opportunity. Remember, with a wireless access point, everyone within radio range can see it and potentially attack it. Wired eliminates this possibility. InfoWorld

Most of that is pure overkill for home use, but definitely good for larger networks.

Is that kinda like "the only winning move is not to play?"
I'm pretty sure most people use wireless BECAUSE they can't/don't prefer to run cables.

This is definitely not feasible for home use, for medium to large businesses all of these points are important. For home use WPA2 is generally fine, while still being practical. If there are concerns of someone hijacking your wirless then I would advise installing and configuring something like cacti or PRTG network monitor. Once setup you can monitor your ATM/Cable and WLAN interface usage in real time (provided your router supports SNMP traps).
