Unhappy ASrock Z68 Extreme7 Gen3 Sound Card Issue

Hi all,

I've recently bought a ASrock Extreme7 Gen3 along with a 2600k and 8GB's of 2133MHz RipjawzX.

So I got my setup all working ( without the sound card installed )

The sound card is a Creative Soundblaster 5.1vx (yes i know its nothing special, but it still beats onboard)

So now that ive got everything working, I installed the soundcard and installed the drivers.

Now when I go and select the SB 5.1 device from the playback devices tab in Windows 7 I get no sound.

So im wondering where my problem lies, I am using the latest drivers n all.

Im thinking it could be a physical issue with the card or the PCI slot its in, or maybe im just missing a setting somewhere.

Please, If anyone has any ideas or similar issues please let me know, Id really like to get this fixed asap

i assume u use 64bit of Windows 7 when u got 8gb of memery, could be nice if u have put that in, in ur system specs.

if u haven't disabled the onboard Realtek in the bios try doing that and uninstall the Creative and Realtek Audio drivers and than install the Creative driver, see if that helps.

Figured out what the problem was.

On my motherboard (ASrock Z68 Extreme7 Gen3), when the PCI Gen3 lane is being used (for example by my graphics card) it causes no other lanes on the motherboard to function.

So ive switched my graphics card to the normal PCIe (Gen2) lane and now my sound card is recognized and my wireless card is also functioning.

So in essence I find this a rather weird issue to have occur but it seems to be the way the motherboard has been designed.

That doesnt sound right, are you sure no other lanes work when pcie-x3 slot is in use?
