Well since there's no nvidia optimus I'd go with the newer CPU one to get some extra battery life. The difference would be negligible between the CPUs under normal usage. I have both a previous and current gen notebook i5 and I can't tell the difference unless benchmarking.

I would just go with the Acer since it's cheaper. The HD 3000 graphics on the HP are probably comparable to the 5470 (I think my i7 2600K's graphics are actually comparable to my laptop's 500MHz HD 5650 to be honest) but that was with DDR3-1866 anyway. The i5 is probably still faster anyway, but the HP might get better battery life without the extra GPU, but it's debatable. These two laptops seem quite similar, and I think it's probably down to a matter of design preference and price. At least the Acer is probably easier to replace if it gets broken, since it's cheaper and parts are likely abundant.

If battery life is to be considered go for an onboard GPU imo. With the nvidia card switch off on my acer (with optimux) I can squeeze about 7 hours of light usage from it.
