HP's Folio 13 Ultrabook Goes on Sale

Top PC vendor HP has now begun selling its first-generation ultrabook, the business-oriented Folio 13. This new mobile machine is just 0.7-inch (18mm) thick but has a battery life of up to 9.5 hours and can boot up its pre-installed OS (Windows 7 Home Premium or Professional, 64-bit only) in a matter of seconds.

The Folio 13 starts at $899.99 and features a full-size backlit keyboard, a 13.3-inch (1366 x 768) BrightView LED display, a 1.6 GHz Core i5-2467M processor, Intel HD Graphics 3000, 4 GB of RAM and a 128 GB solid state drive.

HP's ultrabook doesn't have an optical drive but packs a TrueVision HD webcam, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth, a multi-in-one card reader, Intel WiDi (Wireless Display) support, Dolby Advanced Audio, a HDMI output, and makes use of the CoolSense technology which ensures a cooler and more comfortable operation.

The Folio 13 is backed by a one-year warranty and can be found here.

Glad it didnt come with Dre Beats audio - I had the unfortunate oppotunity to fix up my sisters HP DM1 with these crappy codecs or speakers installed and they were just terrible,

I musta been dicking around with the EQ for more then an hour trying to find my perfect sound but all i got was loads of clipping when there was too much bass or if it was too loud.

really really shit when my older generation DM1 with Altec Lansing speakers has decent bass and doesnt suffer from clipping even half as much

I gave up dicking around with dre beats audio, defaulted all the settings and sent the laptop on.

quite dissapointing.

Yeah, i was setting up Compaq CQ57 for my boss and it came with Altec Lansing speakers. And they were freakin amazing. Very loud and sound was very clear with surprisingly strong bass. But then again, that's something you'd expect from Altec Lansing.

with all due respect. The Compaq CQ57 you were setting up was a 15.6" laptop. plenty of room to fit semi decent speakers in.

Mines just an 11.6" laptop (no its not a netbook - HP class it as a laptop!! - its a netbook sized laptop with laptop powahhhh!!)

Its harder to squeeze decent sounding speakers in such a small chassis, but i can watch a 1080p blu-ray rip of The Expendables and actually enjoy it without the audio sounding totally lifeless, bland and tin'y as f**k like most of the netbook or laptop grade speakers out there. Of course its never going to compete with a full on dedicated speaker set but for a laptop this is punching way above its class.

-----

but yes - I totally agree they make some awesome speakers.

I have owned a set of their XT1 external speaker for years and they sound beautiful!!

You do realize that CPU would never work, right? Even the max Ultrabook CPU sku (i7-2677M) maxes out at 17W TDP. The A8-3550MX APU is 45W. You wouldn't be able to cool it in a package that small, let alone have half-decent battery life compared to what they're pushing for. Besides, Ultrabooks are Intel's brainchild.
