First 7970 review

Aside from the crazy tessellation performance I'm left scratching my head here. Was expecting more from such a big shrink.

I wouldn't really call it underwhelming especially with only Beta drivers and in some games it will really shine exceptionally over the GTX 580.

In very GPU bound scenarios, if the game is more CPU bound then it will be closer with the GTX 580, so it shines where it has to

This is a deal for me, the card is a beast at 2560x1600 and that's were it needs to shine

I can't wait to see CrossfireX results, AMD has that awesome scaling that will make this beast trump everything in its path.

Skyrim single GPU 60 fps omg, can't wait for 9 January

Card seems pretty good, going to get better with drivers along the way

This card is closer to the 6990/gtx590 and it's a single GPU, that is a huge and impressive jump in performance, this definitely takes the single GPU performance crown until NVIDIA release their next gen cards.

Just looking at this graph sorta tells you that the cards we'll see in the next few months are on a whole new level

10 fps isn't shine. I think we all were expecting 20-30% here, and given the size of the die shrink and architecture changes that was a reasonable expectation. What we got was 10%. I really don't understand why it wasn't a bigger change, but a lot of people seem to agree it's disappointing.

The only "shine" was heaven bench. That's nice, but it's not a game.

If you compare the 7970 to the 6970 on the graph I posted that's a 26 fps jump, I think that's a pretty good increase in performance considering Crysis 2 is an NVIDIA favoured game. In other cases it performed close enough to the dual GPU cards, It's definitely met my expectations.

You should take the 6970 as reference, not the 580, and with that in mind AMD has scored a win
Also it is a over 1600p beast, you shouldn't even watch 1080p/1200p

Looks like CCC offers more of a generous overclock for this gen of cards.
