MSI Z68 GD65 G3 Problem with Memory and CPU!!! MSI Please fix this

When I set the RAM for 1866 in the BIOS it gets underclocked along with the CPU.

Screen shot from Memtest86+ that shows CPU and Memory underclocked from what I selected in BIOS. CPU should be at 3.33GHZ and memory should be at 1866mhz.

You need to set 100.3 in BIOS to get 100.0. This is a common issue on nearly every 1155 board out there, so it's more than likely it's Intel's problem, not MSI's. What silly is that all these boards have such granular adjsutments, but more ofthen than not, 2/3rd's fo the options all give the same end clock.(99.9-100.2 gives 99.8)

That said, having the slightly lower BCLK can allow for extra multipliers on the CPU frequency being bootable, os there is an upside to this downside of the platform.

Set the base clock setting to 10030 which didn't do a thing for CPU but now my ram is going too fast.

BIOS is buggy.

The bios has been fine since N34 IMO... What you are seeing is essentially normal. Try disabling spread spectrum to stop it from jumping around.. or like others said, set the bclk manually if it bother you that much.

Where he (most people) are going, that isnt an issue. Its not the difference between 42-43, 43-44, 44-45, 45-46...

To be quite honest, I never heard of that. Your multi limit is your multi limit around 100 BCLK. Now my bclk limit goes down the higher the multi though.

Instead of worrying about your RAM being literally 8MHz over its rated frequency, perhaps you should enjoy the extra 143MB/s of memory bandwidth you now have. Anyone who has owned an Intel system in the last nearly 15 years knows that Intel's BCLK runs about 0.2-0.5MHz lower at the stock frequency. Try 100.1 or 100.2MHz if you are that worried about it.

I'd rather just see MSI fix the BIOS. Numbers of values mean nothing when they don't work right. The BIOS is buggy. I'm running the latest BIOS that is provided from MSI.

It's not the BIOS, it's the clock generator most of the time. My ASRock Z68 board's 100.0MHz setting is 99.8, 100.1MHz is 100.1MHz.

No. You are not getting it. THAT IS NORMAL. A bios will not fix this non issue.

again to those seeing these little jumps, DISABLE SPREAD SPECTRUM.

I do get it. MSI is forcing me to juggle the numbers around to figure out a value. This shouldn't be the case. The settings should adjust when set in the BIOS. This is a BIOS problem.

MSI isnt forcing you to do anything. THIS IS NORMAL BEHAVIOR across ALL BOARDS. Disable Spread Spectrum and the bclk value will not jump around. If its still not 100Mhz exactly like you seem to expect it to be, adjust it manually.

Otherwise, this isnt a bios problem (its not even a problem at all outside of your mind/expextations) if your settings arent at exactly 100Mhz.

It's not just Intel boards either, it's just how clock generators work , some boards get it better then others, but this is normal behaviour (it is slightly worse in newer Intel systems due to the high multipliers)

not only that, but if you open up a program like CPU-Z, you will see a minor fluctuation in clockspeed as the PC is running even with all the power saving features off, as it is simply small inaccuracies in the clock generators causing changes of a few HZ every so often

Overall, it is not only normal PC behaviour, but expected, it's not even platform based, if you set the clock to 200MHZ on my AMD board i'm using at the moment, the Clock varies between 200.9 and 201 in actual speed

My last 2 main boards (DFI P45/X58 JR) were rock solid on speed settings. I think this is a BIOS problem.

Last time I am personally going to say this.

ITS NOT A BIOS PROBLEM.
ITS NOT A MSI PROBLEM.
ITS NOT A PROBLEM, PERIOD.

Thsi is normal. There isnt one person in this thread stating otherwise. If you contact MSI support, they will say the exact same thing. If you call MSI support, please report back with their (same) findings.

GL!

This is a common thing for P67/x68 chipsets. It's a non-issue. It is not a BIOS problem considering the BIOS has absolutely nothing to do with it.

The scope of this activity is far outside Z68 and P67. It happens in X79 as well, and did with X58, and P55, and apparently in AMD. Im sure it happened with older chipsets as well, I just dont recall.

Isn't the clockgen basically a crystal tuned to that frequency?

Im not sure how exactly it works, but that sounds right (cadaveca, you know?). I just know that its quite normal, and disabling Spread Spectrum will alleviate the jumping around.

Consensus appears to agree it is a minor problem common with many other chip sets on other motherboards. I didn't notice it with my last few DFI mother boards.

Where is this consensus you speak of? All I see in this thread is people saying that its not an issue at all. Just because your last few DFI motherboards (which arent P67/Z68 btw) didnt have this "problem" doesnt mean its not normal for this particular chipset. That is where you fail to realize.
