AMD CMO Nigel Dessau Leaving in January, Axed?
AMD's chief marketing officer (CMO) Nigel Dessau, will be leaving the company. AMD's new CEO Rory P. Read has been making some aggressive changes to the company in a bid to turn it into a lean, well-oiled, profit-making business that it should be. Recently, he laid off a big chunk of AMD's staff, most reported to be from the marketing department. This only goes on to reinforce the theory that Nigel Dessau was axed, and not that he will quit. Nigel Dessau joined the company in 2008. He has served as CMO at StorageTek, Sun Microsystems and IBM, previously. Dessau said in his Twitter page that he will leave AMD in January, but will see the company through at CES, when new GPU products will be unveiled.

Rory Read has a lot of work cut out for him. It's tough having to clean up and turn the company around into an effective business. It was so much easier for those marketing boys to ride the wave...
Good luck Read.

Fired and/or laid off people don't leave nearly a month after they get their pink slip. He probably resigned.
Of couse, he could have been forced to resign, lol.

Given how someone managed to shit 800 million transistors on bulldozer, I am not surprised
TBH, AMD's marketing department is pretty worthless for the last decade or so.

Considering how spectacularly mishandled Bulldozer was from a marketing point of view, this doesn't surprise me.
It's good to see the new CEO is willing to make big changes to get AMD's shit in order (it needs them). |

You mean...no more PR releases with the word "AMD" used 50x in a single paragraph? Whatever will we do!!
![]() Good move Read. Bout time the old guard moved on before AMD sinks worse. If they botch Trinity, then there truly is no hope left outside of Radeon. |

I'm regrettably not expecting much from Trinity and Piledriver. That next engineering spin was pretty well completed by the team (prior Rory). The best we can hope is they come as scheduled and aren't over sold (PR). As for engineering and production, Rory has little to affect that now, though the second PR will absolutely be under his thumb. All AMD needs from Trinity and Piledriver, is to bump the performance in some places, finding more efficiency, get production/yield up, and hold to the same pricing. Piledriver doesn’t need to awesome just evolutionary, while still backwards compatible. Llano wasn't really a primetime player and since Trinity won't be backward compatible that news really put Llano/FM1 out to pasture. This time the APU should much improved and really make the pump in OEM/and mobile markets. Best AMD/Rory can do now is discount Llano/FM1 parts and get them out of the market long before Trinity shows. Actually, it they’re not a bad little platform for grandparent builds.

Another one bits the dust . Time for another shake up . Maybe because they did not know how many transistors were on BD and all that Hype about how fast it was and setting a world record for overclocking ? That was some good marketing there !

They (AMD) don't have the budget that Intel possesses, but that doesn't mean they can't spend money on advertising. Of course, at this point, I don't know exactly how they'd break through, or what they'd advertise. |

Well after the Big Disappointment I guess it is time to call in some one else . Maybe this guy will know how many transistors are on the next CPU ? Not just give us all a fluff piece on how fast it can over clock ?
