unforunately we dont have any bios's for 1GB 4550s in our database.

If you havent backed up the original or know where to get one, then the only choice you have would be to contact XFX support and they will probably ask you to send the card to them as they WONT email you with the correct bios

I didnt find any bios's for that card when i done a google search for it. so you could be out of luck.

at least you learn that its always good practise to back up the OLD bios before flashing it with another one.

Well if people would READ the Warning first then this would not be an issue . First off and secondly just like you stated there is no BIOS in the data base for that card , Third SHOULD ALWAYS BACK UP BEFORE YOU DO THIS !!!! Fourth . WHY are people willing to RISK killing there card for a few more FPS ??? It is just bloody stupid IMHO .

And just how did your post HELP ?? I mean really could you find the BIOS he needed ? I could not . So well no one can !

I pointed him in the direction of XFX support and also asked if he has the original bios which he has - so im gonna tell him what to do next rather then just be an immature little troll.

Everything is posted and explained here in our ATi Flash guide

All you need to do is follow the steps from making a bootable usb drive then jump to the ATi: DOS part. but make sure you read "Recovering from a bad flash" located underneath the DOS section.

seems a bit complicated i know, but its actually very straight forward. all you really need is a spare PCI or PCI-E graphics card you can use to flash the borked one.

Im here if you have anymore questions

Go into your bios and set it to boot from VGA and not PCI-E

as for the bootable USB, try it again. but make sure you copy the DOS startup files from the link in the guide over to the USB. Ive made one quite a few times and it has always worked.

do you have an old PCI graphics card lying around?

If you dont then you will need to try and find one. or ask a friend to borrow his pc for a bit so you can flash the card.

the fact that your system is a Dell GX620 makes the whole process a lot harder as the bios is a load of crap. and theres no easy way out of it

THAT might not help either as the bios's might be locked down in the same way as the DELL one depending how old it is but good luck and i hope it works

OMG!

You CAN'T simply flash a GPU to ANY GPU you want.

You can't flash a low end HD 4550 to a mid range HD 4670.

They are very different chips. That's why they are from different segments! HD 45xx vs HD 46xx.

The only few cards that can be flashed to higher models MUST be and ARE always from the same product range.

Such as the HD 6950 and HD 6970. You could never, for example, flash and HD 6870 to an HD 6950.

I thought as much. youre gonna have to look for a friend who has a recent machine that ISNT built by OEMS like Dell, CompaQ, HP or ACER etc etc.

big OEMS like those usually tend to lock the bios down to stop less experienced users tampering and killing their PC. you might get lucky though. the odd batch has a fully unlocked bios just like any other non-oem system

Too far away for me... If I needed a PCI card to get my system back running from a bad flash, I likely could find one at the local Staples or Wal-Mart- they're low end so cost is not significant

Not sure what is available in your area
