This is what happens when a tech forum discusses piracy. Saved for historical record.

Piracy, religion, politics... These things have me concerned for this website and what it once was. What a shame.

It's news of the day, so we report it, not make it. Piracy is very much in the headlines today and is therefore very relevent to tech-savvy enthusiasts like us. The way things are going with SOPA and the like, you can get nailed for piracy even if you've done absolutely nothing and getting redress for it will be next to impossible. Also, our internet is going to be way more censored than it is now, which threatens everyone, including TPU. Don't you think we should know about it? Stuff like these people trying to make a religion out of it, whether ridiculous or not, is part of the bigger picture and is worth reporting.

You should know that this story was officially ok'd to put on here by higher up, so don't look at me. Also, I reported it in a neutral style how you're always saying for me to do, so I don't see the problem?

Finally, TPU is doing fine, there's no need to feel threatened something bad is gonna happen to it.

Finally, something that recognises the "Freedom of Information Act".

Incase you're wondering SOPA supporters, yes the act is real ...atleast more real than SOPA currently is

Awesome!!! I'm going to start the Church of Mynuts. It will have an all female membership, and they will have to bow down at the altar which is at an as yet undisclosed location.

Your concerns fall on deaf ears to those in control. Those in control don't care about your civil liberties, freedom on the internet or otherwise. They are in control and they make the decisions while we sit behind our computers. No amount of news posts, angry blogs or letters to your Senator are going to help. We no longer have any rights with the Patriot Act and with the passing of the NDAA. Thinking that voting out current politicians is naive as whatever stooge comes along to replace them are already bought and paid for by the time the primary elections come along. It's sad, it's frustrating and nothing will get done until things get very, very ugly. Ugly to a point that things like piracy will be an afterthought and a memory of more innocent times.

Enough people are not starving yet for a revolution. As long as the government can borrow money to support the freeloaders there will be no revolution. For all the crap talking people do with SOPA and Occupy "movement" none of them will do anything. No one bites the hand that feeds until it stops feeding.

Of course now with the NDAA signed into law thanks to Mr. HOPE AND CHANGE I might be thought of as an enemy of the state for saying such things.

I am wondering when the Mafia will start a church.
Russian Mafia: church of the Holy Apocalyptic Russian Mafia (Harm)
Italian Mafia: church of Sanctified Italian Mafia.

Why not? Elements of file sharing CAN be linked to organized crime.

I like how everyone automatically thinks of piracy.

I'm a proud believer of Kopimism. I've downloaded various Microsoft products from Dream Spark for free, I've shared the music I make for free and have done plenty of Kopmisim acts all while not breaking a single law.

Take that nay Sayers .

So please people Kopimi. I will not get mad at you, but embrace your thirst for knowledge.

Well it is about piracy. They wouldn't have done this if it was legal to share copyrighted material as much as you wanted.

It is about file sharing, not strictly of pirated material.

It encourages people to willingly share their work for free whether said work be music, programs or whatever through the believe that "communication is sacred". I make music so I have downloads to them for free. I'm taking computer Science, so when I start developing programs I will post those for free as well. Plenty of people were already doing this, some famous artist were already promoting their music for free like Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails. They were followers before the Religion even became established.

It doesn't matter to me what you think, whatever makes you happy. I don't mind at all if people want to be a part of a religion as long as it doesn't infringe upon my happiness and well-being. People can say all they want.

Radiohead and NIN got big before giving away their music. They can afford it. Also consider modern games and programs cost millions and millions to develop. Why should the creators give that away for free? There's no economy in it, and money comes out ahead of your so called "religion".

Granted they are big now, they did it because they knew people would donate to them if they liked it.

I never said they should give it away for free. I was just explaining the premise of the Religion isn't to steal peoples work (although this could be applied, yes) but to share your own. So you can follow it and not be a scoundrel.

Oh sure, and the position of NAMBLA is to explore man/boy love. I mean they can do that without having to sexually arouse each other........right?

This religion, as daft as it is, is in no way like that gross NAMBLA you keep comparing it to. That's depravity, this 'religion' could be a lot of things, but it's not depraved. You're just picking NAMBLA because it's depraved and trying to erroneously conflate the two to make this religion look as bad as possible. Heck, why not just conflate this religion with bestiality while you're at it?
