Multiple Radeon HD 7950 Cards Listed in Europe

Not to be outdone by their US-based brethren, several European stores have jumped the gun and put up for pre-order the (still not officially announced) Radeon HD 7950 aka AMD's second 28 nm-powered graphics card. The listings in Europe reveal three HD 7950s, two that seem to be based on AMD's reference design (one from XFX, one only carrying the AMD brand) and a custom model coming from Gigabyte.

All three cards feature DirectX 11.1 and OpenGL 4.2 support, 1792 Stream Processors, a 384-bit memory interface, 3 GB of GDDR5 VRAM clocked at 5000 MHz, CrossFireX support, and include four display outputs - DVI x 1, HDMI x 1, mini DisplayPort x 2. The 'stock' models have a GPU clock of 800 MHz while Gigabyte's card (GV-R795W3-3GD) is listed with a core clock of 900 MHz (although it may be a typo). The GV-R795W3-3GD also has a blue PCB and a dual-slot, triple-fan (WindForce style) cooler.

The Gigabyte Radeon HD 7950 is priced at 2053 PLN (Polish Zloty) which equals to about 635.6 USD / 483.6 Euro, XFX's model costs 419 Euro, while the AMD-branded card is £435 (519 Euro).

unfortunately that is the way it is meant to be if you look at AMD's reference design of the 7950

All I can say is that it is WAY overpriced imo.

This to not say that 450-500 € for a GPU is expensive, because let's say it high end has always been priced so high, hence the "high end", but such price should be carried on the next gen if there is atleast a 70-80% out of the box increase, not counting oc.

I keep wondering who needs these cards at these prices. The small (very small) community of enthusiasts who have the money already already grabbed or will grab when there's stock, the 7970, king of the hill. If you have 400+ Euros or $ to spend on a card you might as well shell another 50 for the top offering. As for the rest they have plenty of way better offerings bang/buck.

AMD won't give us nothing for "free" for this generation, trust me next if hd 7770 will be as good as hd 6950 it will cost like that. if it will be as good as 6870 then it will be price the same.
this HD 7950 is better than gtx 580 and it costs more - thx AMD.

Thats 1 of the main reasons, yep. They don't want to cannibalise the 6k sales since it still has a lot of life left in them. I'm sure when more of there lower end parts come out for the 7k series, prices will eventually stabilize and then most of the 6k models will become EOL. Hell, there's even a few 5k cards left on Newegg, but mostly low end.

I just see these price as trying to influence Nvidia and their AIB's to think they can push/price the competing 6XX prices up. Although I'm seeing at least in the states most strong OC'd 7950 being $430-460 basically the same pricing as GTX580 but more performance. While remember such AIB non-reference pricing is not based by the AMD MSRP (just like Nvidia AIB's do) so such prices will fluctuate wildly base against the markets volatility. While there's no competition the AIB's or mostly E-tailer set what the market will bear... Not AMD's fault.
