Soldier of Fortune 2. Mafia (1). NOLF2. The GPU is a bit soft though. How about spending $20 on ebay and getting a decent (relatively speaking) GPU to match the rest of the system.

Depends on how old school he wants to go. If the most intensive game hes going to play is like Unreal Tournament or Quake 3 arena, I think that the FX 5200 should be able to do those games easily coupled with that CPU he has picked out.

I will leave it like that if there's no money behind it. If the kid parents or person who will get it are willing to dump in a 50$ i'll order a better card with VGA-DVI-HDMI connector and keep the FX5200 for a P3 I'm gonna use when I do mechanic.

Is that a barton core? OC that bitch and frag away

FX5200 is a POS though, IMHO, i'd look out for something a lil' better for not much cash. Would open up your vintage capabilities. Happy gaming

I've got a 6800GT and 6800LE w/ Arctic cooling I'd be willing to send your way if you just pay shipping. Def. a big upgrade from that 5200

Both are AGP

side note... these 2 cards are where I got my username from back in the day, i was so excited to be able to unlock an LE to a standard or even GT model, this one only unlocks to a std 6800.

That board runs the agp slot at 4x max. ( I have a board running that chipset kt 133a) If you get the 2400+ running in that board (cross your fingers) that is about as fast as your going to go. That board offically only supports up to a 2100+ paly chip. ( i have 2 of them if you need one) I have a 2400+ running in mine but my board is a Abit kt7a. I would ditch the fx5200 for a card like a 9800 pro or a fx5700. What os are you going to run? I have run ut 2k4 on mine at high res with no probs. mine is a s follows

Abit Kt7a v1.3 (same chipset as your board)
Athlon xp 2400
1.5 gb crucial pc133
Gainward geforce fx 5700
Win xp pro sp3
I would stay clear of vid cards that don't clearly say they will run at agp 4x. The voltage is different between 4x and 8x.

an fx5200 would run it (call of duty 1) but its low core and mem speeds would limit it at a res any higher than say 800x600. you'd be better off with an fx 5500/5600 or an ati 9500. Those cards would even let you (or whoever is getting the comp) play games like Call of Duty 2, Half Life 2 (and 1), and even F.E.A.R. on med settings (or on high with pixel doubling enabled) and Halo PC to name a few. Oh Unreal Tournament 3 would probably run on it too, def UT2004... oh and lets not forget Command and Conquer Generals and any in the series before that, warcraft 3, diablo 2, and def. starcraft 1

I will run XP Pro S3 french Corporate.
Thanx for the proposal guys but I get part locally cheaper than it could cost for the shipping.
I could also put in a pci-sata card and put something like a 160 gigs hdd for almost free.

ATi 9800's were badass card's! Precursor to the x800/x850 series which just took GFX to a whole new level IMHO. I remeber rockin' a 9600 & 9800 back in the day before steppin' up to a x850

I wouldn't bother with any fx5xxx series Nvidia....

Palomino's, Thunderbird's, Barton's, OH MY!

That board won't run a barton.

To op, if that board will run the 2400+ your good there (some kt133a boards ran them some didn't. Mine does). If not you will need to get a hold of a 2100+ pally chip. Also I would upgrade the vid card. Nothing over the top just go with a 9500 pro to a 9800 pro/xt or a fx5700 and you will be good. That will give you some wiggle room for gaming. Your good with the memory under winxp. And you can either use the 80 gig drive or if the system needs more space you can get a bigger ide drive. The board can support bigger drives. If you have a slightly bigger psu then use it. The 350 might work if it is of good quality. Like I said I still have a kt133a based system up and running and have learned a few things over the years of running it.

Games wise Quake 2 and 3. Counterstrike 1.6 (source will probably play like total crap), COD, Medal of Honor Allied Assault. Hell you could even possibly run Diablo 2.
