NVIDIA Driver Questions.

Ive been thinking of going green for a while now. But ever since AMD changed the driver team they have completely broke OpenGL. Since I need OpenGL to be stable for Photoshop its cost me some serious work hours as of late with crashes. So I basically wanna know with people who use OpenGL professionally how well Nvidias drivers handle OpenGL.

I don't wanna jump from the frying pan to the fire.

Why not just stick with the drivers that previously worked for you, if you have issues with the new ones?

Because the driver that is stable in Photoshop is not very good for gaming.

I am. Honestly don't care what you think. Being a pro artist I cannot afford a "play" computer and a "work" computer. Just need input on NVIDIA drivers and OpenGL. Thanks.

Have you tried everything in this troubleshooting section? http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/404/kb404898.html

Wish I could help more, but I'm still using CS2.

Thats becouse not many "Pros" use normal(non quadro) cards for Photoshop, rendering, etc. And quadro drivers are not the same as normal. Also i dont think nvidia will be any better at both games and opengl at the same time. I also think now is the worst time to switch to the green camp, with the new AMD cards out and new Nvidia cards soon to be released.

I hate to break it to you but very few pro illustrators use quadro GPU's for Photoshop.

I suggest you learn Illustrator CS5 if you are going into Flash. I can help you with that also.

Photoshop has no system requirements that state a Quadro or FireGL card are required for the app to function, so few people buy those cards, even in a professional setting. Most "Professionals" as Mailman refers to it, also have no idea about PCs, either, so I'm not quite sure what point you are trying to make... The graphic design industry hasn't always been digitally-focused.

CS5 on nvidia, photoshop, premier, afterefftects, everything smooth as butter.

open gl works great for nvidia, you have to remember they poached 3dfx after their demise and got quite a few good engineers, not just good technology.

Ofcourse not, i never said that. But it does support quadro cards and firegl cards. And the drivers for these types of cards are different for a reason. And "pro" cards are meant for that stuff.

Also my brother is a "pro" Photographer and uses Photoshop daily on a Radeon HD2900XT. No problems whatsoever. So i wonder what why our "pro" Mailman has so much problems.

An IGP is enough for what Photoshop needs for 99% of all its users man. Unless you are taking things into Mudbox or something using a quadro or FireGL is stupid. NO ONE will use a GPU like that whos just an illustrator in Photoshop. There is zero point to it.

All Photoshop uses the GPU for is real time scaling, rotation and redraw for most users. Why would I need a FireGL for that?

He has issues due to NEWER drivers. the older ones worked great for Photoshop but not so much for gaming.

Ok, understand you now mailman. Have you tried contacting AMD about your problem? Sometimes giving them a poke works wonders, and they quickly release a fix.

There seems to be a "friendship" between Adobe and Nvidia since Premiere Pro supports only NV cards for the Mercury Engine so I suppose Photoshop is well supported by NV but you have to check further. I smell some laziness lately in the driver department at NV, although for single card gaming I have had zero issues, maybe they are all preoccupied with Kepler?
