DiRT Showdown

I've been missing the game Race Driver GRID for quite a while. A year ago or so, Codemasters took down their servers for the game. What I really liked about the game was the demolition derby aspect. It was good fun smashing up someone's car on the other side of the globe. I've been a bit let down since Codemasters hasn't said anything about GRID 2. Anyways, to my delight I see that they are releasing a game called DiRT Showdown in May and it features.. lots of demo derby! Yay!

Ok, blah blah blah, here's a link: http://www.codemasters.com/uk/dirtshowdown/360/

and a video:

Ohhh I can just sense the angry angry people joining, cursing and swearing for wrecking them and wrecking their fragile egos.
So they don't play until some special site releases a special background app

Have to like the flames coming out of the exhausts

With the whinging about Gymkhana by the straight rally drivers, I doubt this will be added as a DLC although I wouldn't mind in the slightest.

But I bet there will be DLC cars for this game to make more $.

I also liked the derby races in Grid (only thing i liked of that game), but i don't like what i have seen so far of Dirt 3. I think Flatout is better and cheaper.

This game has nothing to do with Rally. It's more of a fun multiplayer game. If you want Rally in a Codemasters game, try the other DiRT games. It's too soon for DiRT 4. Kind of would of made more sense if they called this game something else.. But DiRT is a recognizable franchise.

Notice, CM dropped mentioning Colin McRae from DiRT 3 in the intro.
Reason would most likely be due to Gymkahana.

I never understood how strongly people opposed Gymkhana.
But I did notice in CM forums, even the super fast drivers complaining about having to drop the difficulty down for it.

Maybe Demo Derby would have been a better choice.

Just might have to get me a wheel and playseat to rock this and GT5 on ma pOs3! Never got much into driving game's on PC due to not having a wheel but the more game's i could use it on the more easily justified it is to purchase....

Demo derby is sick!

I can not see this game being the same price as DiRT 3 as it will be more limited.
But unfortunately I think I will still buy it.

What makes you think Codies won't shut down the servers for this as soon as DiRT4/GRID2 is out, erocker?

It's a fun game, the problem with Ultimate Carnage is that they removed LAN games. Sucks for me, but if you can live with it...

Because they didn't with GRID?

People and their drama here.. sheesh!

I much prefer Codemasters racing games to whoever made Flatout. Can't stand Flatout, the controls, handling, etc. stinks.

I find the flat out too arcade for my liking.

But it's above Test Drive II Unlimited.

Ok, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to start anything with that. No drama intended. But the game's online status was almost 3 years. Could have been more, imo, since it still doesn't have a sequel.
And I respectfully disagree of your opinion regarding Flatout. I like both at an equal level, in each game style. I think Flatout is a very enjoyable game (BGM could be better) in which car handling isn't too hard, but it's not too arcade-ish either. So let's see what Showdown brings to the genre shall we?

GRID/DiRT gameplay/handling/graphics etc. with expanded demo derby. It's what I've wanted, I'm sold.

Wonder if there will be a TPU group when this comes out.
Would be fun as there wouldn't be too many people getting all serious with their emotions when they get wrecked.

Something I didn't like about GRiD Demo Derby when playing against random people, then they try to kick you, then disappear, then comeback with this mega fast invincible tank of a car and say jajajajaja when they wreck you.

Unfortunately I can't game while I'm at work even if it is dead quiet.

I did hear of a TPU DiRT 3 group but I have not joined it.
I have raced eRocker in GRiD once which was a hoot.
Seeing his BMW slide sideways into a pile of tires.

In such events as demo derby I'd rather be wrecking and be wrecked by people I can guarantee won't get butt hurt then hurl some abuse at me, Alt-F4 then comeback with a tank car which has the speed of a trailblazer car.

This is exactly how I play. Playseat and G25 plus I also have TrackIR.

This one so far isn't really grabbing me. While I liked the Demo Derby stuff in GRiD and even do a "Bangers" series over at SimJunkies in rFactor this just looks a little over the top and cheesy.

I wasn't a huge fan of the Gymkhana in DiRT 3 either. I did really enjoy the Trailblazer tho. I am waiting to see what other modes they have in the works for Showdown. Who knows it may end up bundled with GFX cards(How I got 2 out of the 3 DiRT's so far)

im with the guy who said it should have been dlc for dirt3 or a standalone/addin for 3 as its not different enough from 3 and adds a few minor elements and clearly a couple of small ish new locals , in general codemasters should consider makeing a more modular racing enging ,like the 007 racing brand where a strong and refined engine is updated with frequent new content and im more a rally nut but i too got down with grids destruction derby as i hate ramming when racing but their ,its what ya do ,amazeing fun hope this isnt too dear, sort it codies we like raceing but sort your sales model out mofo's
