Wire in my fan.

Well Ive been hearing clicking when starting my PC up lately and I finally remembered to check it out a few mins ago and discovered a cable stopping 1 of my 3 fans on my 2nd 7970 from spinning. Can this damage the fan or does that fan automatically stop if something is blocking it?

Apologies for sounding a bit obvious, but my guess is that if you removed the blocking wire and the fan now runs fine and noiseless then no damage has been done.

If it was left like that then it would damage the fan motor.

why cant you simply move the wire out of the way. and yes it will damage your fan and that can in turn damage your PSU.

It can burn the fan out, but if the fan is still working and working good you are probably fine.

Considering the cost of a 7970 I think he was just concerned he damaged the cooling fan. It did not sound like a troll to mel

note that he said he didnt want to move it out of the way. and asked if it would damage if it stayed there.

Could damage the copper wire ( thin coating on wire ) in the fan like burn a short in it but if it's running ok should be fine.

I did not leave it there on purpose...

Now here's somethi interesting... The clicking wasn't my 7970 fan as I first thought, cause it happened again just 5 mins ago when I booted up, so I put my ear to the top of the PC and found that it was the 230mm fan on the roof of the case making the sound (I unplugged it and it stopped instantly)... Lol well, I've fixed two problems started by one.

Nice system, shitty wire management! Spend some time making that rig look as good as it's supposed to

Dude! Seriously, manage those cables and get a better cpu cooler. The HAF-X got some cable management potentials. You should put it to use.

If you wont clean that up better give that rig to me :P
