Swiftech Komodo HD 7970 Full-Coverage Water Block Drawings Surface
Swiftech is almost ready with a high-end, full-coverage water block for AMD Radeon HD 7970 graphics card, which its makers are touting as being a "real" full coverage block, as it's not only making contacts with all critical hot components of the card, but also physically covering the entire area of the PCB, including its reverse side, with a backplate (something that's not part of the AMD reference design). The company released CGI drawings of its product to the web.
Called the Komodo HD 7970, the block confines itself to the size of one expansion slot with an included single-slot bracket. The monolithic black design adds a lot to the aesthetics of the card, including its fittings area. The primary material of the block is nickel-plated copper. The portion of the block over the GPU has a 0.25x0.25 Micro Pin matrix, which maximizes heat dissipation to the coolant. Unlike other full-coverage blocks where a portion of the block that doesn't have flowing coolant makes contact with the VRM, the Komodo HD 7970 has "active" VRM cooling, where the area over the VRM has its own coolant chamber, and is part of the coolant's primary flow. The bridge (where fittings are found) has a red-illuminated Swiftech logo. The included single-slot PCI bracket is made of black chrome-plated steel. The included backplate is made of brushed aluminum that's anodized black. The base plate is chrome-plated with a mirror-finish. The company did not give out pricing or availability. I just came, almost.....
7970 on the egg for 549 today was almost too tempting. I must resist until the other cards drop and prices drop too.

Reading the comments back and forward on the xtremesystems forum makes you realise how invested in its consumers Swiftech are. Lovely looking block. I'll cross that EK one off my list.

Gabe/Swiftech have been in the WC game pretty much since day 1, i really don't think watercooling would have caught on as much as it did if not for their work over the year's. They have had their issue's here and their but they are the "grandaddy's" of PC watercooling IMHO

I agree, but both EK and Koolance are just as open on that forum as well. It's like 90% of users there that use watercooling.

Sorry, I was on vacation, and just got back. The block had to wait for me to get back to work this past friday.
Not really, just neat timing. I am in no way affiliated with Swifftech. Or you'd be seeing some killer builds from me!

WHOA, I woulda jumped on that since the 7970's here in aussie are still priced around 700 AUD+ despite our dollar being higher than the US right now. This sucks, might have to buy overseas when I get the money if prices don't drop anymore later.

As much as i dont get excited over 3d animated porn, an 3d model of a block gives me nothing
Koolance has a 7970/50 compatible block |
