Noctua NH-U12P SE2 or Cooler Master V6GT?

Hi everyone! I am new to this forum, nice to meet you all^^

I am looking to replace my current CPU cooler, my current CPU cooler cant keep my AMD Phenom II X4 955 cool even I not overclocking, my CPU is currently 45C on idle and over 60C when gaming, some heavy game even bring my CPU temperature over 70C. Since I am going to replace my Casing to Cooler Master HAF 912 Advance also (Ya, I am live in Malaysia so this casing is available on my country), so some tall CPU cooler can also be my choice.

It seem Cooler Master V6GT is a decent cooler but the salesman is recommend me to get the Noctua NH-U12P SE2. I can get this 2 cooler with the price below (I will convert the price to USD according to current exchange rate):
Cooler Master V6GT - RM180 (~$59)
Noctua NH-U12P SE2 - RM240 (~$79)

I am need some advice now, any suggestion would be great.

Thanks in advance.

WOW, opu live in a hot area or some thing ?.. That CPU cooler should have no issue cooling that chip if installed right.

Some things wrong for sure maybe it's fan placement in our case.

If i was a salesman i would sa Noctua NH-U12P SE2 to even more so if on commission. Same with your case seems fine thinking it's just plain hot were you are or you need to sort our fans out

I would get the noctua anyday over the V6GT. My friend used to have the V6GT and it was noisier than both of his 6870's in crossfire at load! Sounded like a jet. He got me to swap it out for a Zalman 9900MAX which is much quieter. The noctua is very quiet, and also the thermal paste it comes with is very good. The mounting of the noctua from what I've seen (used a U9E), is much easier to install than the V6GT. You will need two people if you are going to install the V6GT. But yes definately get the Noctua. This time the salesman is right!

ugh...i think there maybe something wrong on my CPU, since I have using Cooler Master V8 CPU cooler before, but i see no much different compare to stock AMD cooler (only 1~2C lower on load).

How are you mounting your cooler? I would look into a H series water cooler by Corsair or similar product from Antec in that price range.

Maybe there's just something wrong with the mounting? So you could save some money if you just fix it. Try fixing ventilation in your whole case as well.

I have try to remount the cooler a few times before, but there is no much different to the temperature. The temperature is still acceptable before, about 63C max when I am play some heavy game, so i never touch it again. But recently, I think is 1 month ago, the temperature suddenly pump to an unacceptable range, the temperature never go below 48C when I am only listening on music, remounting the cooler make nothing change to the temperature.

Maybe invest in some thing like this so you can test the temps..
http://www.amazon.com/Non-Contact-Ha...385948&sr=8-10

In fact any chance you can put your finger on the heatsink thats closest to the CPU just be careful as it may be that hot.

What are the ambient temps there ?

Careful with the Noctua.
My motherboard was listed as compatible on Noctua's list, however the supplied fans have no pwm support. This means they run at a fixed (maximum) speed regardless of cpu load/temp.
I have asked Noctua support to reflect this in their compatibility list - not interested.

yep first make sure that your socket is supported
then how big your space? sometimes the case aint big enough to support big hsf
and i never have a problem with single speed fan, they may little bit noisy coz run at max speed but so far they works fine
