The ugly, plain and boring skin is something i enjoy about VLC player, but if you do not like it then they offer plenty of others on the VLC site.

Just a heads up, CCCP includes ffdshow. You just have to set it to decode using DXVA.

And I use VLC on my Macs and occasionally on the PC. I'll have to give it a spin. I mostly use Zoom Player with CCCP.

Splash Pro (EX) FTW. Nothing is smoother, IMO, and I've tried them all. With all the post-processing going on though, you need one heck of a GPU, or Intel's latest Sandy Bridge IGP, which somehow seems to be better at processing video than the competition.

Free > Commercial Bloatware

I grabbed this yesterday; works well after some minor tweaking (none at all needed on my usual box).

Took a little fiddling with Network settings in the program to stop it causing some image pixellation (Network caching; either it was this or the Wireless 11g on the Network AP connection was too saturated by other users =/ ), after which I managed to play a high res video file across my home network for about an hour without any further dramas.

MPC-HC looks like an interesting program after my brief play with it so that will be kept handy if VLC falls over itself beyond repair (or is missing something that needs this other program).

I don't mind the minor sound bleed after hitting pause during video playback being present on both of these programs (less pronounced on MPC-HC but it's there) which for me is relatively a minor issue (I didn't notice before reading a few posts in this thread so near enough is good enough for me) compared to the bigger picture of having free video playback options as opposed to the commercial software from Cyberlink (PowerDVD) or ArcSoft (TMT).

if you want to see the best MPC-HC has, then combine it with the CCCP codec pack. its got a fantastic config utility, so while the default setting works perfectly, you can still fine tune it to suit you. (lower CPU usage, better quality, etc)

I've been using it since the RC - freakin' love VLC. Very highly recommended for both Windows and OS X.

It does not looks good. Sure you can skin it but I honestly can't be bothered with that crap anymore. Just gimme something that looks reasonbly good and works from the start.

And I have never liked it. It often works but it just feels so clunky to interact with. I use WMP these days and it works very well with CCCP.

things like click to pause are sorely missing in VLC.
But it has space for pause instead

Same with Zoom. I encourage those that don't like MPC's interface to give Zoom a spin. Just disable Smart Play and tick the box to let windows select the audio and video renderers.

Nope. I was, but this whole deal with -A is driving me nuts, so I stopped watching earlier this season.

As far as the "ugly" interface is, there are skins. Use them.

I've been using VLC for years, and if something doesn't play or doesn't play right, there's something wrong with the file. I also use CCCP.

so having advanced subtitles, or using Hi10p files before this release meant it was the files fault? thats some pretty weird logic. VLC is slow to fix bugs and add support, simple as that.
