Battle-Ready MSI GT685 Gaming Laptop Comes to Thailand

MSI is rolling out its new generation GT685—the ultimate gaming machine. In addition to featuring the Intel second generation Core™i7 quad core processor, it is the first laptop to sport the nVidia GeForce GTX 580M, the world’s fastest discrete graphics card, 32G DDR3 of memory, and accelerated dual hard disk architecture. It comes with Dynaudio and THX TruStudio Pro smart wrap around sound as well as a full HD screen. The MSI GT685 was awarded Editor's Choice by Thai IT mag Notebook4game.com and to ensure that it remains the top-selling gaming NB brand in Thailand, MSI is holding activities on university campuses to give gaming enthusiasts the opportunity to experience its gaming laptops.

The machine won the CES 2012 award for product innovation, seen by many as the highest honor of the high tech industry. MSI, where designing high-end record-breaking gaming notebooks is par for the course, will continue to design faster, more powerful notebooks that follow in the tradition of its gaming NBs best epitomized in the MSI GT685. The GT685 utilizes the wildly anticipated nVidia GeForce GTX 580M top-end discrete graphics card which boasts 384 more CUDAs (Compute Unified Device Architecture) than the previous generation with advanced 256 bit broadband and 2GB GDDR5 of display memory. You will be awed by how smooth 3D games run and the new edge you enjoy in battles will help you rack up wins.

MSI Marketing Director Sam Chern stated that top Thai IT magazine Notebook4game.com praised the battle-ready MSI GT685, pointing out that it features top-of-the-line hardware, including nVidia's GeForce GTX 580M—the most powerful discrete graphics card in any laptop ever, to give you the best display performance out there. Not only did this king of notebooks smash the 3D Mark vantage high resolution test with 16,000 points, it also blasted through the 3,000-point mark in the most stringent 3D Mark 11 test, which meets DirectX 11 standards. These two history-making achievements more than testify to the fact that the MSI GT685 has the most advanced 3D processing capabilities of any NB in the world—more than enough to handle the new generation of exciting 3D games slated to hit the market in 2012. The magazine gave the battle-ready MSI GT685 laptop 24 out of a possible 25 points and awarded it Editor's Choice.

Chern stressed that the MSI G Series of gaming notebook computers not only continues to win honors from technology media outlets in Thailand and is selling at a record-setting pace among serious Thai gamers. MSI is one of the top gaming laptop brands in Thailand. To show its appreciation to supporters and to entrench its brand in the local market, this season, MSI launched the Gadget U First! activity in which it displayed MSI G Series laptops in local universities. It displayed the GT685 and GT783—MSI's latest G Series gaming machines, prepared a number of fun performances and prizes, giving Thai college students the opportunity to experience the heartfelt warmth of MSI activities and the blazing performance of MSI gaming laptops during the winter season.

Er no it isn't. The Alienware M17x and M18x have had the GTX580m for quite a while now. I don't think they were the first to sport it either, that title probably goes to the likes or Eurocom or Sager.

Considering the "previous generation" included the GTX480m which sported 352 CUDA cores, what does this even mean?

The GTX580m is merely a GTX560TI downclocked so it only has 384 CUDA cores anyway.

btarunr - I am not critising your post (as it looks like I am by quoting you) but critising the MSI marketing BS.

There is, but the crippled 6870 in the 6990M is slightly slower than the crippled 560 in the 580M. Tom's Hardware has a pretty good article on the subject.

I'm shocked and disappointed in hearing that the GT685 won't be released in the U.S, which should be such a big market for MSI in terms of gaming laptops.
