Epson stylus sx125

Hi!
A friend of mine has this printer and it doesn't print, nor scan at all.
He bought a black cartridge so thinking to print in black and white.
Does it need all other cartridges to print, cuz they where not included in the price?
Also, the light of the power button is flashing and the cancel button too.
I can connect to the pc, installed all drivers with latest update, same thing.

All Epson printers (to the best of my knowledge) need all cartridges installed before it'll allow you to print. Saying that it sounds to me if there is a fatal error, to which Epson will repair or replace (with a refurbished unit) if it is under warranty.

I know this as I'm an Epson certified technician.

yeah sorry innocent but epson sucks that way. i've got a wireless scanner/printer, and i can't scan with it because my ink has expired. so not only can i not print with perfectly fine ink that passed an arbitrary expiration date, i can't scan. i can't use it AT ALL, without buying brand new ink for it. which will not happen.

that makes absolutely no sense and the only possible explanations are
a) a scheme to require more ink, and therefore more money made
b) an oversight while making the software. if it is an oversight, it is not an understandable one.

either way, i am done with epson for good. it's worth it to spend a little more and get a brother or konica or something, stay away from epson/hp/lexmark

You don't need to apologise; Epson's fucking suck! Weird how you can't scan though. The photocopy functionality should be 'disabled' but scanning itself should be entirely separate.

On my SX115 I can scan when the inks have expired, just not photocopy.

You could scan because you had the inks i think.
My friend just has the black cartridge.
He does not have the color ones, because the printer came with no ink and my friend just bought the black one.
