I say anymore than 6 or so would be "excessive", but at the same time any BST thread I browse I bump as a curtosey .

But I dont see how bumping a thread harms anyone, if it bugs you dont look at it.

You don't see that it's not fair for users who patiently wait their turn to hit front page, only to be pushed down in 2 hours by a handful of people who feel it's courtesy to bump for 7 people at once?

I believe the discussion was about if it was annoying not if it was fair, who cares if it's fair or not . . . life isn't fair, fairness is a joke at best. No one said it was a courtesy to bump 7 people at once either. . . you need to calm down and formulate a real argument.

So if they put porn ads all over the site, would you say the same thing? if it bugs you don't look at it? OK maybe that's extreme, how about if there was Best Buy ads ever other post? People use the "latest posts", they WILL see the 4-5-6 BST threads in it and it will bug them. Just like how a troll would comment on a thread... You will read the comments of a thread you are interested in and a troll post will bug you

I just like the "if it bothers you don't look at it" argument

It gets discussed and nothing happens, like most threads dealing with the BST.

Being on page 2 isn't really that big a deal. It's not like traffic and posts in there are ridiculously high.

It's the principle. I bump my thread/s every few days because the traffic is so slow, but it doesn't help that one person is bumping like 10 threads a day.

Then leave the thread, because you're going off topic.

If they put porn ads on the site that's what ad blocker is for. I just don't understand the difference of "excessive" bumping and people who post in 6-7 other various threads in one go, is that then not excessive posting .. .

I was unaware I was speaking to the arbiter of fairness, and the topic nazi.

My point is still the same, why is you who gets to determine what's fair and what's not.

there is a one bump per 24 hour rule.

this is being exploited by people other than the thread creator doing the bumps.

3 sellers backing each other up suddenly get 3 bumps a day, instead of just one. its not against the rules yet, but it violates the intent of one - to stop any single thread being excessively bumped to the top of the sale forum.

This is my point it's not against the rules, nor should it be. All this garbage about fairness just makes me laugh. And now were talking about the "intent" of forum rules. We have a saying if isn't broke don't fix it!

now you are just arguing for the sake of it. one bump per 24 hours has a CLEARLY intended effect, and other people bumping for you is just a workaround for a rule.

if it's no big deal, just start bumping your own thread more than once a day and see how it goes. garbage about fairness and rules? this is a community, that's how communities work.

I think some people need to realize that it is against the posting guidelines to post single word/useless posts. This can very well be carried over to the B/S/T forum. The intent of the current posting guidelines for the B/S/T forum are for example, if you are interested in an item and you are bumping the thread to show interest. The current practice of some members bumping multiple threads is something that is borderline spam and I'm beginning to think this type of behavior needs to be dealt with. Lack of respect for other members of this forum is also something that is going to be dealt with. The system isn't really broke, but some members are doing a great job at trying to break it/exploit it.

I'm going to be straight and to the point. No punches pulled, [H] just leave. You are arguing just for the sake of thinking you are right when obviously not. I'm not a mod I know this but use your damn common courtesy for others. Hey if you want go ahead and start bumping my thread. I guarantee you won't see me bump my own thread if you do it for me. Again, common courtesy, this isn't a democracy here at TPU. If the mods are requesting for you to stop excessive bumps then stop, have you purchased anything recently from the members you bumped? Show me those evals if so. Thank you for listening and cheers to your short stay.

Actually it is a democracy, otherwise this thread would not be being discussed. Either way.

Common sense and forum etiquette go a long way in a community with over 68k member's

Anarchy is organized chaos, order IS disorder. Another one of life's great paradoxes

No, this thread was created to get a consensus to see if others find it as annoying as I do. As a member here that uses this website for information and help besides the fact I'm a Senior Mod. Rule changes and other changes to the forum shouldn't be taken lightly or done hastily as it may alienate, upset, etc. other members that use this forum. So, it is a bit democratic as there is no forum without the people that make up the forum.

Really, the consensus here so far could of gone the other way and I would of been just some complaining crazy person nitpicking about something. However, that isn't the outcome. It's been much better in the past week or so and people who once did these mass bumps know understand that it rubs some people the wrong way. It is somewhat showing that adding more rules to constrain our posting abilities isn't necessarily needed. It's certainly not out of the question though, change from all sides takes time and the ability to understand the entire situation.

I myself find it highly annoying to the point I could kick my monitor , but ok I guess I will start bumping others threads more often.

I mean it could be to where I could start bumping regular threads to drown out the BST bumps. It would be the same thing correct?

Cant we all just get along?

The point is this and simply this. Erocker starts a thread to gauge the popular thought on an issue we saw. This was done so that everyone would hopefully mellow out with the actions. It was never made to be personal, and it was never made to get panties all in a bunch. It was simply done to curb unwanted activity, and I have to say more or less it has been successful with what it has done.

To be very blunt, I don't see why people take this personal. Its a thread about love and peace at TPU, versus the moderation staff going silly with warnings and points to members to solve the issue, or straight out changing the "rules" on members.

@ JR, please don't!

I voted No; it doesn't bother me at all. I hardly ever go to the For Sale section and having a weekly bump of what is on offer can help the sellers and buyers in my eyes. Maybe on a Sunday we could have the relatively recent threads that seem to be losing interest get a bump from a mod of that section?

It's not a respect issue at all or rather a lack of, it is out of respect for friends that threads are bumped not to piss people off, or to cheat the system, or to be malicious in any manner.

Um this is a democracy, as pointed out by others, it's a community. Also please calm down this is not meant to be personal, yet you are taking it as such, you say I am wrong, but that's your opinion, which like myself you are entitled to have. Also my actions are just that, mine, and if they are unacceptable to the mods then that is between them and myself, not for you to dictate my actions. So do please stick your attitude in your left ear.

Agreed, this was an opportunity for both sides to be heard, yet some chose to turn it into a chance to be butt hurt for no reason.

@m1dg3t & [h]
My posts were not meant with hostility. You were just in the line of fire so to speak, no bad feelings here dude. They were just mean to prove a point that it can get very very annoying and obnoxious.

Now that I look back at my posts, I can see how you can perceive them as hurt. Sorry guys.
