Strange issue with Dirt 3 and Logitech G110

So, for some reason, when I play Dirt 3 using my G110, the keyboard randomly stops responding.

The thing is, I don't have this problem with Dirt 2 or BF3 at all, just Dirt 3. The only way to fix it is to unplug/plug my keyboard back in, or restart my computer. Any advice? Anyone know how to fix this? It's basically make Dirt 3 unplayable for me.

Well I know what the issues is after running into key input problems in other games. It's because Logitech was too cheap to make the G110 a proper "gaming" keyboard, even though that's what they market/sell it as.

I contacted Logitech about the problems I was having, and this is what they tell me.

Quote:
Dear **** ****,

Thank you for contacting the Logitech Customer Care Team. My name is DK, and I am glad to assist you. I apologize for the wait in receiving my response.

Your support ticket number is: ****. Your ticket number is a way for us to track your support request.

Please indicate or mention your ticket number for quick and future reference of this particular case.

R*****, from your e-mail, I understand that you are encountering keyboard ghosting with your Gaming Keyboard G110. I apologize for this inconvenience.

All our keyboards use a membrane technology without diodes. The detection scheme that is used is often called multikey rollover.

Our keyboards can detect any 2-key combination but not all the 3-key combinations. We place the keys in the matrix in order to guarantee that the 3-key combinations required by Microsoft are supported. Basically we support any combination of 2 modifier keys (LWIN, RWIN, LCTRL, RCTRL, LSHIFT, RSHIFT, LALT, RALT) plus one other key pressed at the same time (there are a few exceptions to this rule).

It's true that a gamer who needs to press on WASDFGH simultaneously/very fast might encounter a ghost key situation. In this case, the succeeding key presses are not reported to the PC until the ghost key situation is cleared. A full n-key rollover keyboard would avoid this problem. However, these keyboards are more and more difficult to find on the market because of their higher cost (they need one mechanical switch and one diode per key).

This is a hardware limitation for the unit.

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to visit our website at http://www.logitech.com, or reply to this e-mail.

Thank you for choosing Logitech.

Kind Regards,

DK

So basically what he's saying is, that they cheaped out and made a gaming keyboard that is useless for gaming.

This is the last time I ever buy a Logitech product, that's for sure. He didn't try to help me troubleshoot or anything, and he hasn't bothered to reply to my response. No attempt to try and make the situation right at all. Just "Oh yeah, that keyboard we make sucks and won't work for you, sorry dude." Gee thanks, that's what I wanted to know.

I don't get what your problem is, the tone from your first posts says that the keyboard will get stuck, but the email you got refers to NKRO.

NKRO is a common problem for any non PS/2 keyboard, there are keyboards which tries to address the problem, but only a select few. I would call it fault from your end for not researching the products properly before buying.

Are you using specific profile/detection for Dirt3? I find that some games the detection system just craps out, so I use my G11 as a "basic" keyboard (and ignore the G keys alltogether).

Yes, I made the mistake of trusting a companies product without researching it. But only because I've bought their keyboards for years and never had ghosting or any other keyboard problem.

In BF3 my keys will stop responding when using WASD/Spacebar and I have to release all keys and wait a second before moving on.

In Dirt 3 and Portal 2 it stops working all together. It does this no matter what, even if I uninstall all Logitech keyboard drivers, if I use the old drivers, or the new ones. This keyboard just straight up sucks for gaming.

Its the wiring problem, so whatever software you use will not alleviate the problem. I have a habit of releasing keys before depressing the next one, but that is trained by years of playing the piano. I don't ever recall my G11 acting up in that way, perhaps you should confirm it with other G110 users that the keyboard gets stuck when pressing the WASD and spacebar.

I did a bit of reading around and people seem to have tons of ghosting issues and other keys just not working.

The logitech rep got back to me and is sending a replacement unit. Hopefully it works better than this one. Won't know for 7-10 days though.

Ah well, if the replacement is still stuck, then I guess you will have to remap the keys around to prevent it from getting stuck. Sorry I cant help any further other than to diss at you :/

I found out how crappy my G110 is by holding down both shift keys and typing: "THE QUICK BROWN FOX JUMPS OVER THE LAZY DOG"

All I get is: THEQCKBRWFXJVERTHELAZYG

The space bar doesn't even work. In contrast, TheJesus's 1st gen g15 gets a perfect score.

Hi

Sorry to see you are having issues with Dirt 3, unfortunately I do not have a fix

Dirt 3 has an issue with the G110 and other USB Keyboards and will have to be patched by codemaster; rest assured you are not alone, this is well documented on the www and codemasters forums as an unresolved technical issue

Your options are not super; as I am sure you would perfer to use the G110, however you may have to either "bite the bullet" and purchase a gamepad or wheel that appears on their supported list of controllers or wait for a patch (not sure if they will patch this now)

atb (all the best)

Yup, mine's just as shitty. I'll most likely end up buying a different keyboard this week. Because this is pretty useless to me.

Also I'm not surprised the G15 passes, my brothers 2nd gen one works great.
