I am more interested in a Z77 MB reviewed using IB CPU than a SB..other than connectivity, today's chipsets have small influence on platform performance compared to CPUs.. hence got to wait till 29th(i guess?)

with SB chips, Z77 MBs are going to perform more or less the same as Z68..

This will definitely be the platform I am finally going to upgrade to! Coming up from a AMD 4000+ , , GTX 260 and 2 gb ram......I'm going to unload some cash into this new build!

So far all the Z77 boards I've seen have a weird PCIe slot arrangement, and atrocious triple card support at 8x4x4x even if it's gen 3...

My good old P67 MIVE had better support for triple SLI than any of the Z77 boards I've seen so far, here's hoping the ROG MVE changes that, otherwise I'll just skip IB until IB-E comes out

I read boards with the PLX PCIe multiplier will address that issue.

I am getting ready for a build, as I am generations behind, and Ivy Bridge is what convinced me that it is the time to upgrade.
I am also going with Case Labs M8/M10, multiple WD Cav Black 7200rpm 1TB HDDs (RAID10), and a set of optical drives although I am very heavily leaning towards two slim drives (a BD-burner, and a BD-reader/DVD+CD burner) as I want to fit both in one 5.25 bay. Even though the case is certainly not lacking in space, I would have an extra free bay for holding pumps/res/storage drives. That means fewer drive bays up front blocking airflow across the motherboard (even though it will be fully under water, I find good case airflow is still a necessity, both for cooling non-H20 parts, and for pumping the coolest air possible through multiple large rads in push pull).

yeah, it's available here in India as well on flipkart with cash on delivery but prices are 20% raised than what they are at Newegg, that's why i hate them...due to their popularity and no competition with any company whatsover make them have 20-40% extra cash, goverment is also as useless here, they also make big money by cheating people and promoting hiked prices .

I'm surprised the prices are less than the Z68s. I'm sure a price drop on those is coming but they are at decent price points.

I'm looking hard at that ASrock too. Only one so far with an IDE on board. I could finally dump my legacy IDE drive and HD but it would be a lot easier just being able to migrate it along once more.

Thanks man....you too! It's been a slow build type thing for me. I really don't game much any more , but that's probably due to having a computer that won't do much of anything with these newer games. I have a small construction drywall business that takes a lot of my time , along with still being really active in sports and other hobbies. Seems like the computer stuff has taken the back seat over the past 10 years or so for me. I guess the goal is to have this thing finished by fall some time.....so I can take advantage of my down time this winter and get caught back up. Honestly......I wanna build it.....just to see if I can.

I guess it'll give me time to learn more and let the Z77 platform mature a little more. You don't know how many times over the past 6 months I have had everything in the cart at newegg.....and just couldn't push the checkout button.

Is it me, or does it look like every motherboard says the 3rd PCI-E x16 (mechanically x4,) is actually PCI-E 2.0 and not 3.0. Glitch at NewEgg or does this slot not actually do 3.0? Yeah! Even for the P8Z77 Deluxe it says the 3rd PCI-E slot is 2.0 on Asus' site as well. Ugh, that's a little disappointing. Who wants a RAID card?!

The new Sabertooth says this for the x4 slot as well:

Yeah I am disappointed with the current lineup of boards :/ I am really hoping for the Z77 Maximus (or equivalent board) because I imagine that level of board is where we will hopefully be seeing PCI-E3.0 x16/x16/x8 or even x16/x8/x8 at TRUE PCIE3.0 speeds... I am really looking forward to building an IVB setup that has the upgrade option for true 3-Way SLI/CFX without crippled speeds.

I must admit, I spent some time this morning perusing SBE options, and if IVB+Top End Boards aren't available in the next couple months (I don't buy PC Parts until a bit after launch, when tech has matured), I am seriously considering the 3930K + Maximus IV Extreme (Skt2011) + 32-64GB DDR3-1866/2133... Not cheap, but if the Z77 boards continue to lack the graphics expandability I need, I don't see another way to go?

Isn't going to happen because IVB only has 20 PCI-E lanes. It's bad enough that 4 of them are still 2.0, though. But honestly, if you're going to go the route of 3 or more GPUs, X79 is the way to go with x16/x8/x8, or x8/x8/x8/x8 and they all do 3.0.

X79 supports x16/x16/x8, all from the CPU direct. X77 with PLX PEX8747 is x16/x8/x8. Perhaps one of the boards with this chip wil ldo x16/x16/x8, but I am unsure of the chip actually supports that mode.

Will there be a differnce there? Time will tell. I am very curious to see if the added bandwidth of X79 pays off or not.

x16/x8/x8 would be fine with me, hell that's basically x32/x16/x16 in 2.0! Granted, it will never be capable of the MONSTER folding that the SR-2 X58 and some extremely high end X79 boards can pump out with their 7 PCI-E slots at x8/x8/x8/x8/x8/x16, but if I had the money to build a strict folding computer I would have already, but as much as I am all for the advancement of biological science (I am in Psychopharmacology, after all), I can't justify the $600 board + $600-2K processor + $600 RAM + $3000 in GPUs or whatever crazy number it would be. I am hoping to get my Socket940 FX-51 (SK8V + 1GB XMS3200RE + X800XT PE) rig back up and running again so I can at least do a little bit to help

I am not really sure even what folding is since I am so far behind on this stuff but if a guy just wanted to build a beast of a computer to play everything with a big 27"-30" single monitor and run single GPU ( Sli later down the road ).....would Z77 be a good format? I know people have been really happy with the older P67 and Z68 on Sli and X-fire......wouldn't the Z77 be even a hair better for that purpose?

I would imagine that a Z77 Board (wait for Asus Maximus V Extreme if you want to truly have the best possible performance from your board), an Ivy Bridge 3770K, 4x4GB/4x8GB DDR3-2133, and a brand spanking new EVGA GTX680 Superclocked would be able to run just about anything you can imagine at "Ultra" quality (full AA/AF), at 1920x1080 maintaining a 60fps average (with games like Metro2033 maybe needing one or two things set to "high" rather than "ultra").
If you want to play on a 2560x1440p monitor, it might be a good idea to wait for either the 4GB version of the GTX680/685, the dual-GPU GTX690(?), or dual Cards for SLI/CrossFire.

I just saw the announcement for the EVGA Z77 FTW E-ATX Motherboard and wow, I am impressed. Personally I have always used Asus boards out of familiarity, but I know EVGA is one of the best GPU manufacturers and I would assume that their motherboards are of the same high standard of quality?
Because it is by far the most feature-rich, well layed out Z77 Board I have seen so far!
- 5x PCIE3.0 x16 slots (quad card support)
- 4/4 3Gbps/6Gbps SAT controlled by Chipset
- Actively cooled chipset
- E-ATX for factor means excellent card spacing
- support for up to DDR3-2600!

It is also extremely good looking, a cross between a ROG board and the SR-2... I am seriously considering this board for my build, just waiting for reviews...

Any thoughts?
