Gainward Readies GeForce GTX 680 Phantom 4 GB Variant

Towards the end of March, Gainward launched the GeForce GTX 680 Phantom Edition, with a its uniquely-designed cooling assembly that inverts the positions of fans and heatsink, which lends an aesthetic touch. Like most other GeForce GTX 680 graphics cards launched till date, the Gainward GTX 680 Phantom has 2 GB of GDDR5 memory. We're now learning that Gainward is working on a 4 GB variant, and it's more than close to release, as Swedish retailer Komplett.se has already listed it for 5,995 Kronor (US $878.7). Pictured below, the card looks otherwise identical to the original 2 GB model. It's likely that a backplate is used to cool memory chips on the reverse side of the PCB.

When you take into account that a "Standard" Gainward 680GTX is 4895 SEK($720 US) You'll see that prices are pretty exorbitant already.

Meh~ if only the price of AMD's HD7990 is around US $878.7 i'd rather to choose HD7990 rather than taking this overprice stuff..

yea - those are european prices and almoust anything here is USA price +25% no matter if it is in euros or in any other european curencie. so the price is pretty good and if it will sell in USA this card will be priced as good aftermarket cooled HD 7970 (which is overpriced IMHO)

So, it's xxx price in Sweden, that doesn't translate into it being the same price elsewhere.
Don't comment if you're not aware of how companies price their products for different parts of the world.
It's 20% more than the 2GB Gainward Phantom, now, take that, and then apply it to your local pricing for the 2GB Gainward Phantom, if it is available in your part of the world. That will give you an idea for how much it will cost for YOU to buy it.

Also there's a 25% sales tax on that price.

This card is already listed here in the UK for £549 inc VAT (or $732 if you exclude the VAT).

Standard GTX680's run at around £420 - 440.

If you need the extra Vram this card offers then a £140 cheaper HD7970 would be a better option. After all, the extra Vram will only come in handy if the game actually needs it*. If it doesn't then it will perform identically to a 2GB model at the same clock speeds.

*And not just uses it like BF3 seems to.

Well its preorder price, no wonder its so high.. Actually both AMD &NV high end 28nm gpus are overpriced for what they offer.

Imo 28nm refresh is gonna look more promising (GK110 and AMD Tenerife), a worthy upgrade from lets say OC'ed 570/580gtx.
