Sapphire Pure Black x79 Board
Hi guys, I don't know if I should stick with SB or should I build a new rig. I just found a x79 board for 125. Should I get it?
Thanks |

All it takes is money! Throw your wallet at it.

Should I get it? The CPU for the 2011 mobos are crazy expensive.

How do the reviews look? I can't seem to find it. I like my SB-E build, but I also devoted the money to getting a nice motherboard.

Why the hesitation?
What do you want to gain? What can't your current set up do? Yes, the processors are expensive. Do you have the money? Your current build could take faster ram and a SSD. Last edited by jsfitz54; Apr 17, 2012 at 11:56 PM. |

For $125, it might not be a terrible idea. TweakTown's review states that it isn't a bad board, but they recommend others over it. For a price of $125, then it may be a good bang/buck performance.

I am happy with my setup right now. It does everything I throw at it. But I think the x79 board is a pretty good deal. I might build a new rig based on the 2011 but I just want to know if it's a good deal. Can't seem to find it on newegg.

Don't go with SB-E unless you have the money to dump into it. It's not a platform to skimp on, it has way too much to offer. Keep in mind just for a 3820 and this motherboard you're looking at 450 USD.

Well, would you loose money on a resale if you changed your mind?

If I were you, I would use that money to get a 3770k and some nicer memory unless you were willing to go all out for a SB-E build.
Additionally, try and ditch the IDE drive.

Yes those IDE actually slow down my computer when I play BF3. When the drives are shut off or something and for some reason turns back on because I get into a game of BF3. The game automatically disconnects. This happens every time I begin playing BF3. After that initial disconnection, everything is find though.

The cheapest you can get an X79 board for on Newegg is about $200, so if the board is like new in box, I think it would be worth the investment. If you change your mind, you could resell for $150 and get a sale, I think. Only if it's like new in box.

Unless you have $500 extra, I think you're better off beefing up other parts of your system at the moment.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I rather just skip the x79 board then. I though I could build a new rig based of it because the price is quite irresistible.

If you had a mobo for $125 and a CPU for $125, then I'd call you stupid for not going for it. Not worth it at this time for you, though. An SSD and 2x4GB of RAM might help you more at the moment.

He is saying improve what you have. From the sounds of it, your budget fits into upgrading much better than building a LGA2011 build. I upgraded my machine from a Phenom II 940, keeping the hard drive, one video card, and the chassis. I ended up dumping 1800 USD into my LGA2011 upgrade, worth every penny, but make sure you have those pennies to spend first.
