Connect 3.5" drive to laptop

Hi,

I'm looking to connect a 3.5 inch internal drive to a laptop for a NAS solution until I can afford to build something better.

I want to avoid using USB for speed reasons and have been looking at some express card solutions.

Does anybody have any experience with those things?

Also I know I'm going to have to power the thing somehow.
I have some external enclosures lying around. Could I use one of them for power?

I'm conscious of spin down issues too.

Sorry for the convoluted questions and thanks in advance for any advice.

Also the laptop in question is pretty old and will never be used for anything else, so if there is a solution which involves taking the whole thing apart, that might be fine too.

Try HDD enclosures, the one with eSATA Support(don't buy USB Enclosures if you dont want USB) , but some supports both

That assumes that the laptop has an eSATA port on it. If you don't, there sound be a ExpressCard that supports eSATA. Looking for an ExpressCard adapter? PCMCIA is crap, I don't recommend it for eSATA.
