Logitec Unveils Wireless HDMI Kit
Japanese company Logitec unveiled the LDE-WHDI202TR wireless HDMI (WHDI compliant) kit that lets you transmit a full-HD video stream over small distances (inside your home, between rooms). The kit consists of an transmission dongle that plugs into media players, PCs, and tablets that have a USB port (for power, optional AC-USB adapters can also be used) and a conventional HDMI port; and a receiver that gives the output to an HDMI display (TV, monitor) or projector. The receiver draws power from an AC adapter.
The digital HD video stream is transmitted over 4.90~5.90 GHz band, over short distances, up to 7 meters. The transmission supports resolutions as high as 1920x1080 @ 60 FPS. Apart from video, the wireless stream also transports 7.1 channel audio with quality as high as 24-bit/192 kHz, with support for DTS, AC3, and PCM formats. The transmitter measures 30 x 83.2 x 17.1 mm (WxDxH), while the receiver measures 95 x 95 x 31.2 mm. The LDE-WHDI202TR wireless HDMI kit from Logitec is priced at 25,200 JPY (US $309). ![]() Source: Hermitage Akihabara |

I wish you could angle the HDMI connector at 90° for wall mounted LCD's. Many of them have HDMI sockets on the back and therer just isn't enough space between wall and the TV for such connector. And to be honest, i see the main application of such device only on wall mounted LCD's, so you don't have bunch of wires going over the wall (below the LCD).
In new homes they make tunnels in walls for all these cables but on old ones, you just can't.

you can get right angle adaptors for $2, so that aint a real problem.
the 7 meter limit, i see as a problem. this would be cool built into laptops and TV's as a future standard, but the range limit is a serious issue - over such short ranges (less than 5M with walls/obstacles) you'd just run a cable anyway.

This would really be useful for projectors and lots of other things but $300?

I'm glad that the technology is finally here. Plenty of times in trying to get a proper home media centre built, people run into the problem of not being able to pleasantly run a cable. Back a while ago I was looking for something like this to hook up the PC to the TV on the other side of the room. Just went with a 40' HDMI that I secured around the doorjam and along and baseboard.

7M is far too small of a distance. At least give use user replaceable antennas so we could put directional units on it to extend range.
