Wasteland 2

Yes, you read the title right. Wasteland, the game that Fallout is a spiritual successor to, might get a sequel. Or whatever. A classic RPG.

I never heard of it. But it seems interesting. I did a fan funded game before and I deeply regretted it. I'd not do it again unless it really was special to me.

I might consider the $15. I don't care about anything else. Being a huge fallout fan something like this would be way cool. But I wonder how many years they plan for this to be in development.

Pay $15 now and 5 years down the road when I have long forgotten it I'll get an email for my new game. lol

Top down old school rpg. I don't know if I'd enjoy that now. I went online to pledge but as soon as I ready that I decided not to. Not my cup o tea.

Still thats pretty impressive! Sold out on the 10k marks fast!

If they had some more concept stuff available I honestly would consider the $100 pledge, but I'm just not sure how much I would enjoy a game like this. I'll keep an eye on it though, looks like I've got 42 days to decide haha.

Big news.

Quote:
Here’s a big, bouncy ball of unexpected good news for you. Brian Fargo and his studio inXile Entertainment are, as you well know, working on a sequel to the seminal RPG Wasteland, and have successfully Kickstarted it to the tune of $1.6 million. Since exceeding their initial target of $900,000, they’ve been able to add Mac and Linux versions to their masterplan for the post-nuclear roleplaying game. But that’s not all. They’ve just been in touch to say that, if they can reach $2.1 million during the 17 days remaining on the funding schedule, they’ll be bringing in Obisidian Entertainment, including Planescape: Torment mastermind Chris Avellone, to help them make the game.

Oh my word. The minds behind Fallout and Planescape, together. A veritable RPG supergroup. This has to happen.

EDIT: And to those who say Obsidian sucks because Kotor2 and NV: You are clearly not RPG fans to begin with and shouldn't bother.

Obsidian has done a lot of amazing work, but a lot of not so great work as well. Kotor2 and NWN2 were very good, but games like Alpha Protocol, Dungeon Siege 3, and to a degree FO:NV, just weren't that good. Hopefully they agree to do Wasteland and really help these guys make a great game.

Putting money into an unproven/non existent thing... doesnt that go against all economic rules.

Kickstarter is different. There ToS basically state that you are taking a giant risk and understand that you aren't guaranteed anything. Or at least that's how I interpreted it.

EDIT: My initial assessment was partially wrong. You are not charged until the company meets their goal. Once that happens you are charged it is all on them to deliver a product. Basically the honor system.

Right. You think the publishers pour money over the devs and tell them to do whatever they want?

So they reached $3 million (when combining the Kickstarter thing and Paypal), which means they will probably ship a mod kit with the game.
