Pirate forced to pay $4.1 million for selling pirated software.

The former owner of BuysUSA.com has pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy and one count of criminal copyright infringement. Danny Ferrer's website had earned him several million dollars of profit over the years. With his profits, Ferrer had purchased airplanes, boats, cars, fire trucks, and an ambulance. Ferrer was ordered by the court to sell all his profits to pay his hefty fine. Attorney Chuck Rosenberg says "Modern-day pirates ought to expect modern-day penalties". Ferrer also has to spend six years in jail and do 50 hours of community service.

He should also do a minimum of 5 years in prison and pay for all costs of prosecution and incarceration. Same applies to all pirates/criminals.

I know that guy actually. I worked for him for about 3 months doing some minor graphic design work. He owned another company called Ferrer Aviation, which my dad and myself worked for. It wasn't but 3 weeks after I went back home that he got busted. And the night before I left we were all sitting around a table, drinking beers and talking about how he's extremely likely to get caught within the next couple years...guess it came true :-P.

The airplanes were for a Flight School and Jet Joy Ride business he owned. The Fire Truck and ambulance was because he ran the Fire department for the airport. When he was taken down that airport lost it's fire department. He started that because his friend was in a plane accident was was believed that he burned to death.

It could be a bit like the "Catch Me If You Can Film" just back to front... he went from crook to CIA, not FBI to crook.
