Does Vram Matter For 70" TV Screens?

Plasmas now have consumption close to most LCDs (not LED). TBH, I prefer Plasma for movies BY FAR. Like, by a humongous amount

For gaming I might prefer LCD a bit. If you do both, IMO it is best to go plasma, the IQ is just so much better. If you are looking for something budget oriented, there's the Panasonic ST30 series, else the GT30 or VT30 are even better (VT being the best). They all have 3D capability too

Back to our comparison, and the difference seems very large after calibration: 285.63 watts for plasma vs. 61.39 watts for LED-LCD. When the cost difference is calculated, based on US energy charges of around 11.5c kw/Hr and a usage pattern of 5.2 hours per day, it equates to $62.71 per year for the plasma vs. $13.66 per year for the LED-LCD. Over 5 years it would cost roughly $314 to run the plasma, while the LED-LCD would cost $68; an advantage of $246 to LED-LCD. So despite the improvements, there's still no contest in terms of power efficiency: plasma is notably more costly to run than an equivalent LED-LCD. However when we examine total cost of ownership, the figures reverse. The plasma in our example retails for around $2,125, while the LED-LCD retails for $2,839. Add in the power usage costs and the total cost over 5 years is: plasma $2,439, LED-LCD $2,907; an advantage of $468 to plasma over the 5 year period. Even over a 10 year period the plasma will still be ahead by $291.

I suggest looking into a projector and screen.

On the plasma arguement they also run at 600hz?
So i will add that what ever is choosen look into the 120 hz. It will be smoother...
Good luck... i would also get as much vram just becuase its BF3 along with any new games using that frostbite engine will eat ram like candy once start cranking the ultra settings.

50~60" plasmas end up using 150~175W ish power nowadays

After 120Hz the returns are minimal. I just found out the ST50 from panasonic is out, maybe look into that, as it promises to have reasonable power consumption and incredible value

stock power consumption on 55" is ~140W, (though calibrated brings it way up to ~240W which is more than the ST30 which was ~215W)

Plasmas refresh at 60hz but 10 times a second or in multiples (3:3/4:4 pulldown)

if you think you need a television larger than 65" go with a projector and screen. you can get a 1080p 3D projector with HDMI and 90"-100" screen for $3000 which is what you would pay for a Panasonic or Samsung 65" Plasma.

don't bother with 70"-80" Sharp, Mitsubishi or LG televisions.

This generation of plasma has been likened to OLED and for good reason. I wouldn't dick around with LCD at that size.

They probably left the brightness down? idk. They say the Panasonics auto brightness is very low

why is minimum and maximum the same?

I don't think I have seen a Plasma consume more power than the previous years model. every year they lose a little weight and power like a die shrink.

Optima makes a decent one for just under a grand, a decent screen will be a couple hundred dollars.

well btw if your using projector and putting it like 30feet away to have a huge viewing angle, does it go over 1920x1080? or do they have a fix set of resolution? was thinking of grabbing some nice ones when I get a cash and see if I can get viewing experience like those in the cinema, btw anyone tried that already?

The distance from any projector is between 1.5-2.5 X away the screen size.

The larger the screen the less lumens per surface area, and the larger the pixels will appear.

Lol, yeah my "difficult to pass that price" reference was to OP saying he could get a 3k TV for 1k. Not that 2% discount from ECTV. Though their prices tend to be 10-20% cheaper than places like Newegg, Amazon etc... So that's always nice.

Bigger is not always better when it comes to viewing experience.

As for Vram, I normally get 2GB cards regardless of the use, especially at work where most people do nothing but desktop appliations.
Why? Because if the card on my workstation takes a crap I can steal someone else's and give them any old junk and they won't know the difference.

So true i use a 40" and i am 3 feet away and it's great but any bigger would possibly give serious issue's as your moving your head much much more than you are with a smaller screen.

If i could afford 70" screen i would opt for a 40-50 max and get a better quality over having a larger one.
