Gainward GeForce GTX 670 Goes Up For Pre-Order in The Philippines

A Gainward-branded GeForce GTX 670 graphics card went up for pre-order in The Philippines, listed for pre-order for PHP 19,990 (US $470), by Philippine retailer PCHub. The price is backed by "price protection", which as we understand, transacts the difference between launch-price and pre-order listing price with the buyers before shipping (refunds the difference, if the launch price is lower, collects the difference to ship, if the launch price is higher (we doubt), or refunds the pre-order amount). The store sale page doesn't list any other specifications than memory size (2 GB) and memory bus width (256-bit GDDR5). Other specifications of the GTX 670 could be found here (older article).

Price yikes

Hopefully those prices are just for the Philippines because if they are gonna be $470 here in the US, then might as well go for the 680!

It could be much lower. I'm hearing US $429 in the US, to lure people off the $399 HD 7950, for the $30 premium.

if they want to make people buy this instead of 7950 which is $369 on newegg imho they need to price this lower like $350.

In my opinion $429 is still kinda high. Looking at nvidia's 500 series there is a big price difference between their 570 and 580 almost $200. But I guess they gotta make their money somewhere.

Gainward is Palit's division primarily for OC'd or custom cooled cards.. so this card might not be a ref one in my guess and that actual nV ref card might cost lesser

Before you even bash the price, you should first know that there's 12% VAT for products in the Philippines, courtesy of our tax evaders and corrupt politicians.

Yeah, but a few months later, youd see it go down to its normal price. Whered the tax go? Imo, that store just sells overpriced items.

^ did you even look at PCHub's pricelist for its items and compared them to prices in the US before you posted that lopsided reply? The Philippines isn't a country that's showered by coupons and promotions like America and Europe.

^ btw, PCHub has the lowest prices of ALL PC parts retailers in the country. Check your facts, son.

For those saying it will be $470 in the US, you must consider other things like tax etc.

A good example is that a GTX 680 in America costs ~$600. In Australia, the same GTX 680 costs ~$720 even though AUD and USD are almost on parity.

actually those prices have no tax, we have a choice to pay with tax and we just add 12% of the total cost.

if you look at other prices, gtx680 msiu at 26,550 Php = 617.44$ (reference)

on PCHub last check was 25,000 Php for the palit gtx680 = 581.39$ (reference)

although some stores sells them for 23,300 Php = 541.86$(reference)

and palit jetstream for 23,500 Php = 546.51$ (3 fans)

on asus and msi first release some store Qlt_South if i recall right were offering 29,500 Php = 686.04$ for their reference gtx 680 which I believe is like totally over priced, and then people started selling their crap at that price. actually I'm kind of sad as we have many over priced items here specially when they are supposed to be cheaper than sapphire 7970 (25,000 pesos = 581.39$ although I've seen some for 24,700 Php = 574.41$ and actually were lucky to grab some dual x 7970 for 24,600 Php = 572.09$

of course all these prices doesn't have that 12% vat as these are the discounted price, we can add 12% to pay for the tax, oh and if you look if we pay by credit card, there is like a 5% increase in price.

although luckily for some people, we got some i5 2500k for 9,400 Php = 218.60$ (as cheap as it can get here) and of course the new Ivy bridge are all above their world market price point as it gets

vga: Sapphire HD 7970 3gb/384bit ddr5 (reference)

Promo for CC (Straight) : 27,410 (All Visa / Master card)

all this crap makes me wish I live in the US or something. well sadly I'm not.

SAPPHIRE 11197-01-40G Radeon HD 7970 3GB 384-bit G...
SAPPHIRE 11197-01-40G Radeon HD 7970 3GB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card OC Version
was: $499.99
$459.99

ok let's say it's still 499.99$/500$= 21,500 Php (this is the price of a sapphire hd 7950 lol) but well living in the US might be expensive on other stuff don't know >.<

edit: pretty much they all get it at the same price US markets get and of course shops like newegg at 499.99$ or 459.99$ (they still get something from these prices) on their Distro (distributors), same here in Philippines, Distro prices are pretty much similar in that regard just that shops are overpricing stuff.

I have no idea if America is "showered" in coupons, so I can't comment on that, but you obviously no nothing of Europe. You don't think we pay VAT here? In my country, we also has the highest tax rate in the world, but I don't mind, since we also have one of the best communities as well.

Anyways, stop bullying other comments saying they should check their facts, when you don't even have yours straight.

I forgot to mention that our VAT is 25%.

@Everybody
Yea I don't know if I would buy the 670 over the 680.. Unless it was close to $200 diff... If it's only around a $100 difference then I would shell out the extra beans. The 7950 is at a sweet spot at $350! It should drop the price of a GTX580. If the 580 would drop to under $300 then I would jump all over that.

I got my Palit GTX680 for 22k from qlt_south, while they were selling theirs for 25k back then. They dropped the price right after other stores were selling them cheaper. PCHub is the last place I'd look for an upgrade if ever I wanted one. Thats a fact.

^ Of course you did.

So why don't you show us your receipt for proof? The price you saw when you 'searched' for GTX 680 from other vendors was pre-tax, lol.

@Simonvinder

I think everyone knows that Europe has outrageous taxes. Every blog I go, when there's a new product released, there's always that one Brit who's complaining about the 20% tax.

Anyways, just like sanadanosa said, pre order is always expensive. They see it as an oportunity to squeeze a few bucks.

It's because of the BoC (Customs), Not because of the measly 12% 'government' VAT.
The Philippine customs have their own value added tax to electronic devices that is 200-300%.
I think we pay for just Customs Duties for like $100.
The 25% 'Outrageous' VAT in Europe is not even comparable to our Customs Duties and VAT.
BTW... Good thing, I think it only applies on any 'hot' electronic device. Vehicles like Benz and BMW have 500-800%.
