Everybody seems so be citing Dungeon Master and Eye of the Beholder as the game's inspiration. I'm a couple of hours in, I haven't got very far but I am already glad I bought this. Using Q and E to rotate takes a little getting used to initially, but you do get used to it and I suppose it's more in keeping with the shifting and shoving of a party's movement. The combat is also unusual, forcing you to rotate through each character, but I like it and, again, it emphasises the sense of leading a party rather than playing a fps with quirks. It looks great, is very atmospheric and, in my humble opinion, should be purchased by anyone with a remote interest in this style of game before the offer runs out.

They cetainly know how to update a classic game:

Okay, I watched the whole 1:47 trailer, but there was no need.
After the seeing the first 10 seconds of game play, any real, old-school RPG'er would be heading over to their fave dig. distribution site to buy and download (like I am now).

I love the last line in the description, where they say if you want a real old-school experience, turn off automap and get out the graph paper to draw the dungeons.
Brings back so many memories of doing just that in old-school rpg games.

Download at 30% after 1.5 hours. I have plenty of time to find the graph paper. (sigh)

Actually, really stud, old-school RPG'ers just memorize the levels and don't use any maps at all.

Probably a good thing ... I never found the graph paper. lol

This is pretty fun. Been along time since I played something like this. Took me a lil bit to realize I can't control my direction with the mouse lol. Awesome find on this one OP. Thanks.

Menus work in 1920x1080 but not 2560x1600 (which it selected automatically as default). Odd
When I sit in the menu or am creating a character, both of my cards go to 100% fan.
It's that hard on GCs ?!?

EDIT:
menu problem is known but @ 2560x1600 fix is to use the arrow keys instead of mouse until next patch.

This game is cooking people's GC (both ATI and Nvidia). I'm gonna try a FPS limiter to see if it helps.

Set Bandicam to 60 FPS limit and the cards don't fry anymore. Looks like the game has no frame limiter so it runs at a million FPS. lol

It's a note, not a scroll; read the description it has.

Thanks for drawing this to my attention, I simply assumed this wouldn't be demanding and noticed no extra draw. I'll enable v-sync to see if that helps, but on the forums, others have said that this had little effect. Hopefully a patch will be forthcoming.

I did not play Dungeon Master or Eye of the Beholder, but the mood is not lost on me and this captures the days of D&D, Runequest and Tunnels and Trolls, without forgetting adventure books such as The Warlock of Firetop Mountain, extremely well. Wasn't it only yesterday that we were passing around a twenty-sided die? I see a great deal of developer love and respect for classic gaming in this title.

That's what I thought too, until when sitting in the menus (trying to figure out the 2560 bug) my fans would continuously ramp up until they were full speed (I hadn't even started the game at that point). My fans rarely ever leave their default setting (20%) with Skyrim at ultra settings.

I would never have thought to use a FPS limiter (nor did I have one) until BP told me that it could potentially fix flickering in Skyrim with crossfired cards ... so thanks BP !!

Not only that, but the tile based movement and 90° only rotation, the short and instantaneous animations (like damage and casting) and the old "inventory hell" captures the classic feel perfectly.
The first giant snail I meant almost did my party in because I didn't know how to use the interface to cast a spell.

How are people making a healer? There is no healer class (no I haven't read anything about the game ... even the instructions. lol)

That's what I've been doing too. lol
When I first right clicked the mage's hand and the little spell glyphs popped up I was like WTF.
I hit the first one and it smoked the snail. My next thought was, "I'm Awesome !!"

The only thing so far that has pulled me out of old gamer bliss was when I clicked on glyphs on the wall and it told me what it meant. The old games used to give you a chart with what letter each glyph represented and you had to figure it out yourself by writing them down.
After playing for an extended tme, you actually learned the glyphs like a second language. lol
