SSD drive for my new build

Ok, I'm almost done buying parts now for the system listed below, except for 1 last item.
I think I may need a SSD drive?

I want to be sure I am the quickest I can be when playing BF3 and other games.
Problem is...I am not familiar at all with SSD drives.
All I have used are WD Blacks and WD VelociRaptors to date.

Probably 2 of the top series of drives out now are the Corsair Force GT and Sandisk Extreme. I just grabbed a 120GB Corsair, loving it.

Any of the latest drives will be a good choice. IMO OCZ VERTEX drives are great. I use a Vertex 4 128gb and love it..Faster then Corsair drives, but really you cant go wrong with the purchase of a ssd

I have my Corsair Force GT and I also love it as well. Very fast and stable with the firmware it came with. I've also heard that Intel's 520 series aka "Cherryville" is also fast, but the stability/reliability is it's selling point. But with the way things are constantly improving on SSD tech, your just better off getting the fastest drive there is. And if there are problems, well...that's what a warranty is for

It's funny, I am on the egg right now looking at the "Cherryville" 520. I just hot keyed over here for a moment to see if I got any more input and I saw yours.

I'm going to trigger a drive this morning just need to do a little more reading, but your input has a influence on my purchase.

Ok, just pulled the trigger on the Intel "Cherryville" 180GB.
I like what you said..."it's also fast - and I like the stability/reliability is it's selling point factor.

Now I'm hoping to hell I have enough system to play Battlefield 3 with all the eye candy cranked max, along with newer games coming out.
Total cost planned initially $1500.00
Total spent actually $2057.76
Total cost of my funeral when the old girl finds out $Ouch*^&$

You do know that the price of one Force GT 120Gbs is only 140 USD each where the 520 is 280 USD. It costs the same to get two Force GTs which in raid 0 which would be faster and give you more storage. I'm not seeing the benefit to getting the Intel SSD.

I've heard nothing but good things with the OCZ Vertex, Corsair ForceGT, and Patriot Pyro series. Main thing is to be cautionary with heavy writes, I recommend using a seperate drive for your users/prog files dirs & pagefile in win7 to overcome those writes. Oh also, if the drive supports TRIM, Windows 7 should just detect it straight out of the box.

You know, your right about the cost and the raid factor.
I did consider that.
But it's only money and I can't take it with me when I croak.

Not only that, I read the user reviews on the egg. NO THANKS! Only 74% of the users gave it a 5 star. That's out of 303 users.
Way too many negatives. I don't want the hassles.


The Intel name grabbed me, I know first hand the extremely high quality of their product.
I used to work in the manufacturing industry as a mechanical engineer and I have spent much time at Intel facilities working on new machinery and equipment they purchased from us.
I know the standards they hold.
I know I won't regret this addition to the system at all.
I may even buy another one in a few minutes.
I also like the built-in data protection features including Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) 256-bit Encryption, End-to-End Data Protection, and Data Compression this drive has.

PLUS: It comes with the game MASS EFFECT 3 (which I have no clue about...lol) that's worth $49.00

I did buy a seperate 2TB drive for most stuff.
I am only going to load Win 7 x64 Op system and Steam/Origin on the SSD.
