Looking for original Diablo demo

Back in the mid 90s, my uncle gave me a magazine cover disc that had a few game demos, one of which was for Diablo. I have since lost the disc and have been unable to find the demo online.

Just to be clear, this is NOT the shareware version you can find floating around the net, that's just a level-limited version of the full game. The demo I'm referring to came as a single executable (the icon was black with a red Celtic cross, I think), and was kinda a beta version of the game. The only characters there were in town were the blacksmith, tavernkeeper, pegleg boy and the witch, who all had different voices than in the full game. The church was still randomly generated, but if you tried to go down the stairs to the second level your character would say "That is forbidden in the demo".

I want to make a comparison video showing the differences between it and the full game because it seems like nobody I know ever played it, just the shareware version.

I believe it was on this disk, too.
This disk was made by Monolith Productions for Microsoft.
I believe, however, not positive, that Monolith Productions made the demo disks for a few magazines... I remember their logo on some "Boot" ( now Maximum PC ) disks I had.

Sorry, I found disk one at the Internet Archive, but they did not list the game sampler 2.

Well, good luck on your quest.

Nice find Hugis.
That do look like what Red_Machine has described.

To expand on Hugis' post.

15 years Diablo demo

Blizzard released this demo late in August or early in September 1996 on the web and in several game magazines around the world. Similar to the later spawned Diablo, it allows playing the first two levels as a Warrior and fight the Butcher as a sort of end boss. There is no multiplayer, that was not yet part of the game concept. Some of the graphics are still different, and there are numerous spells that did not make it into the final game.

The demo consists of a single, highly compressed executable that starts the game directly with no installation. There is a short intro movie and a few blurb screens upon exiting the game.
