GTX 480 using Dual monitors High Heat

Hi,

I am using dual monitors for my GTX 480, and I realize that my temperature reads 74C even during idle. I took one monitor off and it reads 51C now.
Will I damage my GPU if I keep using dual monitors?

Thanks,

if you check my gtx 480 review, you'll see that in multi-monitor the card runs higher clocks than in single monitor, this results in increased power consumption, which creates more heat.

your card won't be damaged by the high clocks/heat/power

Start using MSI Afterburner and make some fan profiles with an increased fan speed @ idle. This will help quite a bit.

At idle, my primary card hovers at 400MHz on the core, but temps are usually at around 50*c on the hot card at idle.

and dont think this is just 480's, almost all modern cards ramp up their clocks in multi monitor. 480's just run hotter, so it seems worse.

thats correct.

latest nvidia drivers on kepler cards run single monitor idle clocks in multi monitor and blu-ray too, which greatly helps with power consumption.

Thanks,
Use MSI Afterburner and undervolt your card; you need to find the lowest load voltage your card can run at. Ever since I got my second GTX 480 I undervolt them, this way there is less noise, power consumption and heat.
@W1zzard: They both do stock clocks with 0.925v, Is that good enough?
